Dale's Glacier White 200 cup

CLEANING DAY TODAY!

I managed to get hold of an electric buffer from a mate at work, and I'd planned on using it this weekend but the weather was terrible and it was lightly raining most of the weekend so I didn't get chance to use it, so I just gave her a quick wash.

Started out with my foam gun and used some demon foam, used a lot less this time, 1 cap full as opposed to the 4 I used last time, and the foam was much finer and easier to coat the car in, although because it was so fine I don't think it did much to cleaning the car :worried:

Anyway followed up with a wash from top to bottom using the trusted ol' two bucket method, then cleaned the wheels and tried out Meguiars tyre dressing on the tyres.

I'd completely forgotten too I'd bought some Renault logo dust caps for the wheels, got to love those little touches

Finished off with a very quick clean of the engine bay, and by quick clean I mean I wiped the crap off the white intake hoses as they were filthy! :tearsofjoy: Also replaced all four bolts along the front bumper panel, as the old ones were extremely rusty and looked hideous! Engine bay looks a little bit tidier now at least...

Getting my hands dirty is an understatement ... after fiddling around under the car my hands were literally black! Definitely worth it though, and it's always rewarding doing things yourself

Car feels even more sturdy now, there's literally no movement from the engine with both upper and lower mounts fitted so everything feels much tighter, and the power delivery when accelerating quickly from being stopped is much smoother

You got any of the engine mounts on your car?

Yeah I have the lower engine mount, upper torque arm and gearbox mount. My feelings were the same as yours, a really noticeable difference for the better. The vibrations have died down now and pretty much disappeared - it's the Scorpion that's causing the rattles and vibrations now

I'm assuming you got all yours fitted at once and wouldn't be able to comment how much difference the gearbox mount makes on its own?

To be fair though, for the sake of £20 and about 30/45 mins to fit it I might just get it :tearsofjoy:

Ive had the caps on now for a while and they do turn a bit sour after not too long, lucky they not too expensive but be prepared they will deteriorate after a while :worried:

Ah that's a shame! When they go I'll probably just stick those cheap plastic ones back on then :worried:

Well they are only £2-£3 on amazon so not the end of the world... I did buy 2 sets but gave one of them away lol. I was even going to go to the trouble of changing the renault diamond to a little RS symbol but never bothered in the end.

So some of you may know my exhaust manifold flexis have gone, which is a big job to sort.

@sevenfourate spotted a new and genuine OEM exhaust manifold on eBay which I placed a bid on and ended up winning for £110 posted, absolute bargain (So many thanks to Shuv for this!).

I emailed Birchdown Renault specialists and asked them for a quote on labour to replace the manifold for me if I supplied the part and they quoted me 4 hours labour totalling £192.

Gonna get it booked in with them soon, which will cost me a total of £302 which is a cracking price for a brand new manifold fitted, I'm so chuffed!

Next on the list is a Miltek exhaust, followed by a remap at RS tuning! Can't wait

Does anybody have any input on whether I should get the resonated or non-resonated Miltek?

What exhaust have you got on yours?

Milltek downpipe and linkpipe, resonated K-Tec and K-Tec sports cat. Bear in mind though I'm running the Megane engine, which is a little quieter due to the turbo.

Would highly recommended scorpion! Similar price and the resonated version is lovely sounding when you want it and quieter when your just cruising. None res systems are very loud.

I agree with Chris I have a resonated scorpion cat back system and it sounds lovely! Once it settled down i get some nice pops and bangs shifting through gears whether its cruising or full on! It's quiet enough cruising too! I have a contact for a guy who can supply the system for a good price (I paid around 360 delivered I think), pm me if you want me to pass you his details.

Hats off to you cleaning the car in the rain mate, thankless task that is!

And great result on the manifold, what a bargain.

As for the exhaust, save for an Akra!

Yeah I did get them all fitted at once Dale, so I can't answer your question I'm afraid! To be perfectly frank, the only difference I noticed with the mounts was the engine ones. I couldn't tell any difference with the gearbox mount - I'm still happy I had it put in though for the cos, it's all gotta help somewhere!

That is a cracking price on the manifold, no wonder you're so happy about that! Shuv does love his ebay deals

I'm another one that would vote for a Scorpion resonated. Quiet enough when you're bobbing about, but sounds lovely when you want it to! It's plenty loud enough, even with the extra silencer in!

Thanks for the offer mate I really appreciate it, but think I'm gonna go with Miltek

It's easier washing in the rain... the rain washes away the shampoo a little bit for you :tearsofjoy:

I'm tempted by an Akra, but I don't know whether I can justify it! I think I'll settle for a Miltek resonated.

Yeah I've heard videos of the scorpion and it does sound nice, but I love the raspy-ness of the Miltek, so think I'm gonna order one

Me too mate. But had a lengthy chat with Sean at Jade Developments today and he seems convinced that Miltek is the one to go for and the Akra is no better other than being amazing build quality.

I need to hear both in the flesh to make my mind up I think.

I think the akra has the benefit of being about 10KG lighter than any other exhaust so it's a huge weight saving, it's just stupidly expensive! Lol
