The Clio has sat since the last track day. I had a planned change of job so did not book in any track days for October November to concentrate on work. The change of job has now resulted in me no longer having to work odd weekends or evenings, and more flexibility to work from home, or even work longer hours one day and shorter hours the next.
The hub refresh project is still rumbling on. All of the parts have been acquired and now the hubs are with AW Motorworks to be blasted and then certain parts cerakote treated. Alex said it would be cheaper to blast the metal parts and then power coat them. We decided to go with the "overkill" option to cerakote the parts to hopefully stop the aluminium hubs from tarnishing, and keeping the steel parts looking fresh.
We acquired some swivel joints from Rene Dizdar.
He was really easy to deal with and delivered the swivels quickly.
There are someone SNR bearings to go in to the hubs.
Once the hubs are fitted it means that most parts in the engine bay will have been replaced or refurbed at some point other than the engine.
I attempted to clean up the headlights today. I purchased a 3M headlight restoration kit from Amazon to see if it could improve the plastic cover on our black insert lights. As the car is Clio is not garaged the UV light has given the headlights a slight brown tinge. The kit comes with sand paper of different grit levels to attach to a drill so that you can dry sand, wet sand and polish the headlight cover.
The kit was less than £25 so I thought that it was worth giving it a go.
This is the before photo.
This is the after photo.
The top part where the indicator bulb is where most of the discolouring had affected the light. I think that the restoration kit has worked to clean it up a bit. I have used most of the kit on the drivers side light so I am temped to buy another kit to do the driver's side light again and also the passenger side light. The kit should do two lights but I found that I worked out what I should have been doing with the sand paper half way through the job.
The Clio is having its MOT done on Monday. I am not expecting any surprises so hopefully it will be a pass with no advisories.
