The front brakes on the Clio have been a bit of an issue this year. After using DS Uno pads on drilled Megane R26 discs at Anglesey the car started to suffer with brake judder. We then cleaned off the surface of the brake pads as we thought it might be down to brake pad deposits but had the same problem at Snetterton in August. We then changed the discs to some new Brembo HC discs when we went to Croft in September.

After August we also decided to only use the DS Uno pads at track days so we would use DS2500s for normal use, and getting to and from track days, and only put the DS Uno pads in for the duration of the track day.

At Croft in September 2022 we had brand new Brembo HC discs on with part used DS Uno brake pads. The brake judder came back towards the end of the day. After Croft I tried to clean up the discs by doing a few stints in the Clio with the DS2500 pads in and doing emergency stops on dual carriageways late at night. Unfortunately this did not solve the judder problem.

At the last track day at Snetterton in September 2022 the brakes suffered with brake judder despite my best efforts to clean up the discs with the DS2500s pads. If there had bee any deposits on the discs then @EthanMenace driving at Snetterton would have got rid of any deposits.

I have been driving the Clio around for the past few weeks getting to and from work and the brake judder is bloody awful. The Brembo HC discs appear to be warped as I can feel the pads biting but them not having a uniform amount of contact so the car comes to a bumpy and slightly erratic stop. They brakes are still biting as hard as you ask them to, and stopping the car, but it is the contact on the disc that seems to be the problem. When the car really slows down you can feel it braking and then not braking before the pad bites again - and this is with the pedal depressed in the same position.

The brake fluid has been bled fairly regularly and there does not appear to be any issues with applying brake pressure, or the feel of the pedal.

I am convinced that the Brembo HC discs are warped so I have got a new set of discs to go on to the car.

This time we have gone for some Godpseed G hook discs. After using some loyalty points with Kam Racing they were only £95. I think a few other forum members have used these and I have only seen one cracked disc on Ben Lawton's Clio. We will bed these in with the DS2500 pads over the next month with some gentle road driving. If anything this will get rid of the brake judder in the short term. I won't need to use the Clio after the weekend to get to and from work so the Clio can go back to being used from time to time rather than daily duties.

The next track day booked for the Clio is Brands Hatch in December 2022. We will need to decide what to do about the brakes before Brands Hatch. I am wondering whether I should try another set of brake pads and see if the DS Unos are the common denominator in terms of being the only constant factor when problems have arisen? I know that others have used DS Unos without any problems so it is an odd issue.

I am taking the Clio in to see Alex at AW Motorworks in two weeks to have the ZPO installed. I will see if he has any ideas about the brakes. I also need to get him to check the drivers side ball joints as I am getting a knocking noise from the front drivers side suspension when the car goes over small bumps. @EthanMenace has been smashing the car up kerbs all year and he may have worn out the ball joint/s despite them being replaced fairly recently.

Least you’re having the same issues as us lot with the Ferrodo pads.
I’d definitely skip even attempting to bed in using the DS2500’s, as they’re renowned for leaving deposits.

Godspeeds and Mintex F2R’s were the only combo so far which I’ve not had issue with. My discs have got the same surface cracks Ben’s started with, but I’ll just be mindful of them.

Well, having DS2500 for (very) fast road, I am sad to say they are big letdown for the money, because of total inconsistency of brake feel/power. No way I can modulate them on ABS threshold, like I did with former TRW (which vere not up to task temperature wise). Left foot braking can be hit and miss sometimes too. I do not have brake judder, but can definitely feel that they grab some parts of the disc much stronger than other. Both discs (brembo HC) and pads were new and properly bedded in according to ferodo website.

The ds2500s were fine last year with a few track days and some fast road driving. I didn’t expect much and they were fine - but they were not pushed very hard. The DS Unos have caused a bit of chaos this year, but when they work they have got immense stopping power.

Unfortunately there’s no real answer.

I had a right moan about it. Specialists said there’s no way I was experiencing what I was.
The recommendation was moving to Winmax pads, but I couldn’t quite palate that cost

Shame Gav as I think they’re the best pad I’ve tried and never had issue. I’ll not volunteer them to others in future!

I was thinking of DS1.11s.

@RSRowe How long do the F2Rs last you?

DS1.11 are an amazing pad…. Probably similar to to the Unos really.

I think I’ve done 14 days on them. I changed them before Croft and there was a good 1/3 left.
They’re a really progressive pad. Not as much initial bite to the Ferrodos, but consistent force along the length of the pedal.

Winmax W5 pads on brembo HC discs have given me no issues on my silver one.
Got PBS pads on the bigger PFC discs on my Meglio and they have no issues too.
I did find the PBS were quite up to it on the smaller discs though.

Yeah, I'm assuming 'low temperature' means road driving. Shouldn't be an issue if he's changing pads at the track though?
Low temps being winter/wet days.

I had exactly the same issue. It's very hard to use the brakes like an on and off switch as they're meant to be used, on cold/wet days.
