"Don't buy a Renault" They told me.....

Just to update:

Renault will cover the new gearbox with no cost to me.

Dealer will cover the steering rack repair

I asked about the clutch as it would make sense to get done at the same time of the gearbox as otherwise it would cost me an arm and a leg in the future.

I would not be charged for labour, just the cost of the part but they will advise if it needs doing.

Out of interest any one know how much a clutch is? I know I can ask renault but I'm not going to call them back after just having spoken to them (I stupidly didn't think to ask)

Depending on price I'm tempted to get the clutch done so at least then I'll have peace of mind it's new.

Oh and renault have mentioned vouchers as a possible compensation, not sure what type of vouchers though?! If it's only for servicing then I won't use them, but if it's for parts then first thoughts are to use them towards a clutch.

All in all it's not a bad result and I can't really complain, they're doing what they can and a decision didn't take long to be fair. I can't honestly see another manufacturer doing more in a quicker time but I could be wrong.

So without getting arsy.

You car broke down out of warranty and its getting fixed at 0 cost to you.

Not being funny but it shows what a little patience and time brings.

Good result imo.

and you can tell your mates that yes it broke down but Renault were first class in covering the cost after a few phone calls despite being out of warranty.

I'd like to see them with their jap and german cars get that................

ONE THING THOUGH

If i were you i'd ask if you contribute something will you get a warranty?

on warranty repairs you don't get one but if you pay you do. So i'm thinking pay 1% and get 12 months warranty. Not sure if you have to pay 100% of the cost though so it may be worth asking the question.

Not sure the gearbox will go again though as i don't know of a revised box going.

Brilliant resolution then mate. RUK/the dealership after a rocky start seem to have been more than reasonable in getting you sorted.

Why not use the vouchers if they're for servicing?

N

Just to clarify, my car does have warranty, it's a used car warranty of 12 months and I bought the car 2 weeks ago.

What the initial issue was is that the manufactures warranty finished a month ago and the dealer wanted renault to cover it as opposed to them paying out.

They said if renault don't cover it I'm liable as the 12 month used car warranty they gave me doesn't cover it.

That's the reason I was peed off, if renault had turned round and said no as it was out of manufacturers warranty then fair enough, I was peed off with the dealer not covering it with their used car warranty.

Basically then you didn't have a warranty on the gearbox but Renault UK are still covering it. Or that's what I'm getting from reading that anyway.

Good result anyway.

I just always tend to use specialists.

I say I won't use them but I guess a free oil change would be good in the future.

No vouchers have been confirmed and nothing was specified what they were for, they were mentioned as a possible compensation method by the case manager at renault.

Yeah although from my point of view I assumed a 12 month renault used car warranty covered something like a gear box.

But as you say it's a good result, I can't really ask for more.

At the end of the day I love the car, and it will feel like a rocket ship coming from the twingo car lol

But that 12 month warranty is with the dealer not Renault and will only cover what it does.

As I have explained, they tried to claim on a manufacturer out of date warranty so warranty said no.

Renault UK will take the cost, not warranty.

And the dealer is covering the rack.

I'm not being funny but I've spent over £150k on renaults and it took them over a week to agree to cover the cost of work on my 4 month (at the time) 265 Trophy. 36 hours is no time at all.

so what if anything does the "second-hand" car warranty cover then if it doesnt cover a gearbox?????

sounds like one big con does this...

I didn't once say 36 hours was a long time.

Look we're going round in circles, you've got your opinion which you're entitled to and I have mine.

My opinion is it would not have been acceptable after two weeks for me to be expected to pay for a gearbox. A gearbox is not a wear and tear item and a gearbox that goes after 20k miles is not fit for purpose.

Yes I'm grateful Renault are covering the gearbox as it saves me having to fight for the dealer to replace the gearbox. Had renault not replaced the gearbox I would not just have bent over and let the dealer charge me to replace it, I would have pursued it with trading standards and the finance company as a vehicle not fit for purpose.

I would not have taken your approach of "12 month warranty is with the dealer not Renault and will only cover what it does." and paid out nearly 2 grand.

Upon further inspection today the gearbox is not an excluded item in the used car warranty so the dealer was trying it on anyway.

Exclusions were things like exhaust, brake pads, tyres, bodywork etc The dealer just didn't want to pay out for it.

But anyway I'm in the wrong, it's ok to buy a car from a dealer where the gearbox and steering rack go after two weeks and how dare I even ask for it to repaired and replaced lol I should just have shut up not called renault to complain and just paid the dealer over 2 grand as they originally demanded.

Moral of the story renault UK are good, franchised renault dealer are sh*t. I will NEVER buy from a franchised dealer again.

On the surface it covers most things you'd expect with the things you wouldn't expect covered like wear and tear and consumables.

But like some insurance companies they're happy to take your money but when you need to make a claim they look for every way to not pay out.

Let's face it dealers are your best friend when you're buying a car, but it's how they treat you when you have an issue that matters.

The dealer is absolute ****, and I would rather cut my balls off with a blunt knife than ever buy a car from them again.

I just hope now that they don't balls up the gearbox fitting and I never have to visit them to experience their comprehensive warranty lol

Are you for real or one sad troll?

Sounds like it all turned out well then in the end.

It's always horrible when something goes wrong and I'm sure everyone has done the same instant rage thing before. Keeping calm and being a pest always works hahaha!!! You've hit the nail on the head about RUK being good but the dealers being sh!t, you're not the first person to form that opinion and you won't be the last. I'm sure there are some good dealerships out there though... Well, I hope their is anyway!!!

I think it's normal to be annoyed and disappointed having problems so soon after a purchase.

I wasn't rude and didn't lose my temper though with them as it get's you nowhere as you say.

In an ideal world we all want to buy a car and nothing go wrong but it doesn't always work like that.

A bit confused at being called a troll, I can assure you that I haven't joined an internet forum to try and get reactions from people I don't know or argue with them as anyone can talk big behind a keyboard and I wouldn't say anything behind a keyboard that I wouldn't say to someones face. I joined an internet forum to kill time and talk about a car we have a common interest in.

Anyway thanks to everyone for their input. I look forward to returning the twingo (shame it wasn't a twingo 133 courtesy car :tongueout:)

Seems harsh?! Everyone gets pissed off when something goes wrong, add in a Renault garage who at first contact appeared unhelpful and wrong it's easy to see how you'd get annoyed. Anyway it's all good now there's another Clio on the road with a new 'box :drunk:

So really if the 12 month warrenty does actually cover the gearbox, shouldnt they pay for it instead of RUK?

They seem like ****s.
