Another RenaultSport! PH1 172

Hiya guys. Just thought I'd introduce the latest car on my driveway.

I've always loved the look of the phase one clio 172, and have been on the hunt for one for quite a while. Seen a few tatty ones, and ones that need a lot of work.

I seen this one advertised and in the pictures it looked like it has been well looked after in it's life and 12 months MOT, 5 months TAX, and a great service history, was certainly pleasing. So went up and and had a good look round it.

Got the car for a steal personally.

Only a couple of pictures atm, but plan to get some more this afternoon.

It's a totally standard car, bar a non standard exhaust , but doesn't sound that bad.

Now plan is to use it as a little track car. Few little niggily bits need doing, to get it ready and I plan to do one.

Shall try and get some more pictures soon, maybe some with both cars.

Cheers

Yeah I've always been a fan of them.

Gave it a wash this morning, so it's looking clean. Also topped the washer bottle up, a new rear wiper and checked all tyre pressure which i don't think the previous owner has checked in his ownership. Was 24-26psi in all of them!! All up to spec now.

Porn, pure porn, love the 1*2's

Far more than the 197/200 lol, :wink:

And you have just reminded me that I need to move this section into the main arena, we've had it for at least 6 months lol

If all goes to plan then it should be doing its first track day on the 24th. Trying to source a video camera to video it. Will be photos though.

Only thing I need to do is change the throttle cable, as pedal feels sticky, and been told its a common problem on the ph1's.

It's First Track Day

On the MOT, one advisory was given which was a coolant leak. Now I thought it would be best to sort that out before the track day. It came with a radiator and some Renault Coolant, but common problem being the bottom hose I decided it was best to change the hoses aswell, for piece of mind.

Well I said that the 24th was going to be its first track day, and it was! I did a little circuit called Llandow, quite close to me if anything were to go wrong, and easyish track for my first bit of track driving.

Was a great day and the car held up really well, all beit a spin of in my first session. Was very wet! i ran the tyre's that were on the car when i had it. Toyo T1r's. I can assure you that these tyres are terrible in the wet.

So I plan to do my next track day in February. Finding it hard to find a different track quite close and for cheap. Search continues.........

Photo from the day;

Was good to see what the car need's for the next day. by the next day I would like;

Eibach Sportlines Springs (currently buying a set)
Some sort of rear brace (OMP upper or Whiteline ARB)
Bucket Seat and Harness (felt standard seat didn't hold me in very well)
TYRES!!! Definitely new tyres!
Good service. (oil/filters/plugs)

Cheers

Yeah, might be able to keep up the the ol 197 then haha!!:thumbup:

Unfortunately the 197 will be going next month, in order to do more track days in this 172.

My initial idea for my next day was February. Had to be postponed unfortunately. So now aiming for April when the car should be my main and only car.

Few updates on the car;

Purchased a Powerflex Dogbone Mount. Getting the old one out was a pain in the bum!!

Ready to go on the car.

A little sticker :wink:

Then these came up. I wanted a set for track and a set for road.

Bought tyres for them. Went for R1R's.

Next was a new battery. Old was not holding charge at all. Dead as a door nail.

And my most recent purchase. A set of coil overs. Now mixed reviews on these over on CS, but they was local, brand new and cheap. So thought why not. If I don't like them ill sell them on, but being in my mates 182 with a set on, I can't see that happening.

That's all for now, hopefully get all the above fitted soon.

Which coilovers are they mate? Am just trying to decide on which ones to put on the PH2 172 that am running for track car but keep getting mixed opinions over on CS.net, keep thinking Gaz GHA's but not sure :s

They are the KTEC Coil-overs. Not highly rated for track use over on CS, but worth ago for the price I paid for then. I ideally was going to buy Eibach Sportlines for it, but these came up cheap.

That looks awfully like a powerflex condom in that 1st pic haha.

Nice project mate

Even better its Powerflex lube :wink:

Cheers

Had my 2nd track day on the 4th May. Did Llandow again with a few mates this time. One in a 182 and a Saxo VTS.

Car held up very well! Coilovers and decent tyres made a huge difference. The R1R's are a great tyre! Well recommended.

Not sure if ill get another day in before its trip to the Nurburgring in July.

Any way here's a few vids from my day at Llandow. Filmed with a Go Pro Hero 2. Vid on the window is crap quality as I uploaded it wrong :/

Hope they work.

Next plans will be to get it prepped for its trip to the ring. Oil + Filter change, front discs and pads (only just done the rears) and a good check over! Might be purchasing an exhaust this week to.

Will get a few photos from the day put up aswell.
