**UPDATE 16/08/13** Hankooks falling apart!!?!?

I took my focus to autodynamics in sheffield. I recommend them, they have hunter alignment equipment and you get a before and after printout.

Cheers Paul. At the moment I'm gonna take the car back to AP tyres in rotherham and see what feedback I get from them, hopefully it can be resolved there. Thanks for the heads up though will probably give them a try in the future

I did try find that tyres but it was taken away or throw out. But they told me it was a fault on the tyres.

Hope that help.

Thanks Giles. Its nice to have some reassurance its not just me losing my marbles . I'll hopefully get a good response tomorrow when the car goes in.

Just an update on this...

I took the car in to AP Tyres in Rotherham yesterday afternoon. They took a look at the tyres and said they've never seen Hankooks do that before, though they did admit they don't sell a lot of that brand. They don't buy direct from Hankook (as you would expect) and have taken pictures of both tyres and are sending them to their supplier this morning.

They have said they will chase it up and he said that he will push for two replacement tyres to be supplied by Hankook ASAP and they'll just replace these two.

At the moment I'm waiting for a response, I'm going to give them until next week to get me a response, but after that I might start to struggle, with the tyres falling apart at the rate they are I'm left not really wanting to drive the car until they're replaced. :worried:

So far though I've had a good professional response from AP, so that's a good thing

Had a phone call from AP Tyres today. They've been told by Hankook that this is not a manufacturing fault and that it must be the tyres scrubbing. This is despite me doing thousands of miles and several track days on previous sets of Hankooks and having no problems at all. :bat:

While AP Tyres are saying they think this is a fault of the tyre, they're not willing to take them back while Hankook wont accept them. They have offered to swap my wheels front-back, if after a couple of weeks the tyres now on the front remain intact they have said they will lump more blame on Hankook and send the tyres back.

HOWEVER, that will leave me without two tyres whilst Hankook assess them, again if they claim theres no fault I'll still be out of pocket. I'm not best pleased :@. For the amount of tyres they sell vs the amount of this type of complaint I would have thought they would supply me with new ones to keep my happy, obviously they aren't all that bothered about my custom.

has the tracking been checked to back up the claim its the tyres?

if its "within" tolerance then i would say it gives you more clout in your claim - or at least if i was hankook i would be asking for evidence that the tracking was to tolerance or out of it - its no good guessing!

Oddly neither Hankook or the AP Tyres have asked to check the tracking, when I went to them last they were happy it was the tyres so I just kept my mouth shut, might mention it this time and get them to check it.

To me it seems like there is a fault on the tyres (I've never seen rubber split like it has on these, especially since I had the exact same Geo on the last tyres which were fine). So I'm worried that if I show the alignment is out then it'll be scape goated as that when the tyres are still faulty.

tought decission!

you could get it checked somewhere else and see what its like BEFORE you say/do anything - just checked but not adjusted if you get me

Yeah thats what I'm thinking, I hate to be underhand about it if I'm honest, I'd rather just take the car in and be upfront about it and have them check it, but don't really like the idea of giving them stuff to use against me.

I'm a bit confused, are you showing us photos of where the tyre has been rubbing or are the photos showing us that it hasn't been rubbing.
Surely the garage can't make a claim that it has been rubbing if there is no evidence to show that it has. Do you have spacers?

Showing pictures to show its NOT scrubbing mate. Theres no marks anywhere in the wheel arches. I also had the wheels off in the tyre place and showed them and they agreed there was no way I would scrub anything on the standard suspension and theres no evidence to that claim.

wheres the scrubbing mate?
thats scrubbage

There isn't any scrubbing dude, thats the point.

So to give an update on this, I've swapped the wheels front-back, and I'm not having the same issue with the tyres that are now on the front so I'm pretty sure that proves my point.

However, Hankook are unwilling to replace the tyres without having them in for technical inspection. Which basically means I have to remove the two tyres, buy two more tyres to replace them and send these ones to them. Then I have to cross my fingers that the technical team accept the fault, which, having spoken to them sounds unlikely they will do (they've said things to this affect on the phone).

I'm honestly not sure what to do, but I'm pretty pissed that a company of their size wont go out of their way to keep a customer happy, instead they're wasting my time and money and generally being difficult.

Mateys £1200 Akrapovic generates a rattle from back box, complains, gets whole new system sent to him without arguement or having to return the old system.

You have problems with two £80 tyres and they wont honour you with two new ones. Tight as a ducks ar5e!
