Sprint Hillclimb 197

Keep your stress levels low, and just replace them and move on. It's not ideal, but sounds like you won't get anywhere. Trust me.

Yea thats the plan! Just need to make sure I get some that work with a sparco sprint xl seat that I have in the passenger side. The sw motorsport ones i have on the drivers side might not work for that seat

I have the SW mounts in the Megane (same bolt pattern as the Clio) and they work fine with my XL Sparco
Do you have both mounts angled so that the floor bolts are under the seat instead of both mounts pointing to one side? Does that make sense?

For example i have the small seat on the drivers side and the outside has the floor bolts outside the seat and the inside has the floor bolts under the seat.

Feel like I’m describing that terribly! Maybe if you have a picture that would be great!

I know exactly what you mean. @Big Ben had to do the same with his switching the mount direction.

I’ve actually got their bases and side mounts, as opposed to the direct to floor ones. Apologies

Ahh! @Big Ben which side mounts do you have? You will see my outside broken supreme mount has been turned around

Pure replied and they say the max width is slightly smaller than what sparco say the sprint L is. He said I could use 2 tunnel side mounts. But would have to buy 2 sets as it would leave him odd ones. His arent as easy to run the wrong way round as they have an extra bend

Supreme side mounts with the feet angled inwards will see you right

I would suggest the design is actually flawed and the slots are too long meaning that the the land between is under too much stress as well as potentially allowing forward and back movement which would saw on them.
I forget which company made these but the slot is only to allow for alignment to the fixed hole.

I agree with you there, I like the design of yours better. I’m pretty sure my drivers side ones are the same, but looking at the SW website, if the picture is accurate, it looks like they changed the design to 2 slots as well. Maybe not just as big a slots as my broken ones though

I agree, when making my own I didnt slot the rear bolt mount and kept it a fairly snug fit for the bolt with at least 10mm of material in any direction supporting it. because of the loads on that area and I used 5mm 6080 alloy so if mine do fail I don't believe it will be in this area,

My rather shady ocular finite element analysis makes me feel like there isn't enough material in that design to support the seat and drive properly.

Ever since I put all the cup racer bits on the car I thought I was missing out having the thinnest front ARB that came on a Clio (20mm). I messaged many breakers but none were willing to measure ARB's for me or let me go and measure as other cars like scenics etc came with 21mm and 22mm and they are all the same length. These can be got very cheap too.

So I ordered a cup racer 22mm ARB, all I need to do is get similar spring rates for my gaz golds as cup racers used as mine are way off (didn't know any better at the time and let them choose rates), I think this should help the car rotate a bit better. Gaz have said that the shocks wouldn't need re-valved, which is surprising as my front springs are 650-700lbs and rear are 450lbs. Cup racers run about 450lbs front and 750lbs rear according to the setup sheet I have.

First hillclimb went really well. Really enjoyed it!
Only one hairy moment where I went over a bump in the braking zone and no amount of brake or lock would get it round the corner :tearsofjoy: felt like it sped up and just went straight! Just managed to get it stopped before a steep bank. Saw an MX5 hit the bank hard the run before!

Second to last run I had a miss fire on the top half of the hill. Of course there was water down in with spark plug one again, got that dried out and was fine for the last run.

Can't believe the value I have got out of the Toyo R888R's. I must have them 4-5 years done loads of sprints, a track day and now a hillclimb and they are past the wear markers but still doing really well. I'm sure new ones would be a bit quicker but I wasn't too worried about getting a few more tenths.

You have to be brave and come off the brakes to give the tyres grip for the turn.

Yea! The bump really caught me out on that run. I have a video from behind and you can see the rear jump up, I'm sure the front did similar but can't see it on the video. Must try and it get it uploaded. After the bump I stopped trying to make the corner and just get it slowed down lol

Decided that I am going to add the front half of the cage so that I can change class which means that I can do the odd hillclimb without needing MOT/tax/insurance (does my head in needing this to do one or two hills a year). My dad thinks he will do a sprint or two then too.

Took the dash out today. Still trying to decide if I want to take out the heater/fans etc etc. Not sure if I will regret it.

Here is the mess lol

The way the handles are in the door cards look bad so started designing surrounds for them. Just need to print them now!
