Hi Adam, I was quoted an exchange for a new gearbox was £2613.23 including vat then new clutch was advised while the gearbox is out, an additional £246.50 including vat they offered 25% contribution so £1959.92 lest to pay on the box and £184.87 clutch kit then the dealership threw in £100. Ive just posted on the Renaultsport forum as of yesterday too, just trying to spread my disgust as far as i can!

You are much better off going to a specialist and not through a dealer, I'd be very surprised if they go much lower in terms of contribution and that price is astromical. I had mine repaired by an ex Renault mechanic with a new clutch fitted and full service for £650 + Clutch price as I bought this myself. Needed 2 Synchros and another part which I can't remember the name of, have they only quoted you for a replacement box and not for a box repair? The whole box doesn't need replacing unless it's damaged that seems seriously overkill, mine was in at 8am and rebuilt and serviced by 6pm ready for me to pick up.

Hiya,

I’ve had contact from another member on the Renault sport forum who had the same issue as me and has managed to point me in the direction of another contact who may be able to help me out, but I agree the price they have quoted is outrageous! Yup they said it needed a new box and couldn’t be repaired, however I think this was just the "easier" option for them rather than fix it! Only reason I went to Renault UK first and the dealer is because there are a huge number of people still had decent offers outside of warranty but it really seems to be luck of the draw as to who you get picking up your case unfortunately ! Ill keep battling on :swear:

to remove and fit back gearbox at dealers its expensive given the labour/hr charge...

so factor in a gearbox strip and rebuild and it will be "on paper" more expensive then putting in a new/exchange gearbox

the other option is take to a garage get them to remove box - take to gearbox repairers/specialist - they repair/rebuild and then garage fits it back in!

Having my box replaced after only owning the car a month. Fortunately covered under Arnold clarks 2 month warranty. I was lucky.

Clutch disc broken 2000 Km after new gearbox and clutch kit

Has anyone had such a failure? My gearbox and the clutch have been replaced by Renault and 2000 Km later I had this failure:

There was no misuse and I have no explanation for this. There are some guys in the german cliors.de who told me that they had multiple clutch failures after they have got a new Transmission. Now I'm feared that the same will hapen to me.

An interesting thread having read all 57 pages - bought my 2010 Clio 200 last Mon from BCA Auctions (Ford Main Dealer P/Ex) with one original owner, FSH from supplying dealer.

Developed hesitancy to go into 4th from 3rd and when going back down from 5th to 4th there is an audible 'grind' so guessing the synchronous are foobarred. Called RUK this morning and they aren't interested - say I haven't shown any brand loyalty and there is no justification for them to contribute :jump1: oh happy days!!!!

Just had gearbox rebuilt on my 2010 200 at 70000km, was crunching going up or down into third. Replaced 3rd and 4th synchro's - I saw the old ones and the carbon material had sort of delaminated (rest are brass). (Independant) Mechanic told me the part had been superceded and new synchros were of a slightly different design. I'm lucky my aftermarket warranty covered the majority of the cost (did not expect them to), which was $4500 AUD including new clutch kit (slave cylinder was also cactus).

Hi All,

Since last months my Clio 3 RS 200 CUP (2009) have also issues with the 3rd gear. (89.000km)
Probably the Gearbox Synchros.....

Till now Renault Netherlands won't recognize this problem and will not give any contribution because the Clio is older then 5 years.

So will there be a global solution for this problem?
Any idea/help?

Thanks...

Mine was rebuilt after a crunch going into 4th from any gear @ 25k miles, registered 2010.

Off your own back, or with help from Renault, or....?

And who did the work ? (Just interested.....touch wood; Mines good !).

The Crunch developed a few days after I purchased the car so I got the dealership to repair it under the warranty they provide.

They took it to Tameside Transmissions in Droylsden, Manchester.

Didn't get any help from Renault as cars out of Manufacturers warranty.

Hi just wondering if anyone can give some advice..

I've had my 07 197 (63k miles) for a few months now and it has started crunching from 2nd to 3rd while driving hard. I've been reading through this thread but there's so many different situations and I just don't know what route to take. Obviously it is out of any warranty and I cannot justify anything like getting a new box from Renault for £2k. This makes me think the best option is for a repair at a Renault specialist, what kind of cost would this come at? Someone has also recommended I take it to a gearbox specialist to get repaired.

Seeing how many people have this problem is very frustrating as it really shouldn't be happening. I've absolutely loved everything about the car until this started :worried:

I'd appreciate any help and advice you have

57 plate R27 15k and all good. Will change oil next year as part of service. It's easy and cheap enough to do. Not that I will be racking up the miles!

@Colesy If it helps, when mine developed a crunch going into 4th, it was taken to a specialist in Manchester to have the gearbox repaired. Ended up costing a total of £660.

Worth changing out the gearbox oil and getting an uprated gearbox mount. Mine did the same at high revs occasionally and stopped crunching from 2 to 3rd after I replaced the oil, lower engine mount and gearbox mount.
