Catcams 5504402 - OWNERS thread, Q&A

This thread seems to be full of people saying this and that about peak gains

i dont doubt the intentions of this thread and fully see the point however th fact of the matter is if you want a fast car the clio will NEVER be it if you want 300-400 bhp then you should have brought a megane 250

at some point im sure ill put some cams in the clio down at ktech but then perhaps i will not one thing is for sure i wont be figure chasing and i wont be expecting massive gains but if it feels better then lots of win .

i sometimes wonder if i brought the car and spending 20k on a clio is madness untill i drove the megane and realised the appeal of the clio is it feels sharp it feels crisp and the brakes for example work really well , where as when i drove the megan it handled really well but the brakes felt weak and it felt heavy.

anyway i digress but in short good thread but remember people the clio is not a rocket ship enjoy it for what it is mod if you must but keep in mind always the things that make the clio MEGGA .

This is well said:thumbup:Think i would go for cams from the k-tec package when the belts are due but until they are ime happy with small mods like air intake and exhaust and map.

Hey @Raptor6767, looks like I'm late to the party. Did you manage to get your issues sorted?

I've sent you a DM, I'm going through the exact same problems and running a setup very similar to yours (before you went back to stock cams).

The moment we fitted the cams to the CATCAMS specs - everything was fine.

And NO, we couldn't do that with the Renault OE tool because, in my experience, they aren't just plug'n'play.
If you install them using Renault tool the timing will be wrong and you'll lose power.

In the end, my mechanic ended up with a catcams 402 tool that has the timing perfect everytime and now all of the 197/200 running 402's in Croatia (and making real power) are coming to him.

Hi, Do you know what would be the correct installation procedure for these camshafts, incl how to time it right? I am having the same problem OP have mentioned, Rich AF ratio Low compression and low power, I have got the cat cams timing tool but I just couldn't find any manual for the 402 cams installations instructions. My Mechanic have installed them using generic timing instructions for the F4R engines... And would need to have it rectified. Any input would be appreciated, Thank you

Just an update, have found out that previous mechanic timed it using factory figures instead of what cat cams requirement, possibly looking at bent valves and damaged pistons as the other shop has found leaks on intake and exhaust valves...

That’s pretty shite.

Someone on Facebook had an issue with them the other week, but refused to believe that they needed to be timed with the catcam tools

yep, what bothers me is that I have provided them with the cam timing tools and the camshaft details but they still managed to mess it up...

If they have been timed with OE spec, you should not have any damage, just an issue with the valves not being fully closed and low compression as a result. If they are badly timed, then yes it could be worse than that.

That’s a relief to hear, but nothing’s sure till the head is off. Finger crossed nothings damaged

Theres a post on here of a guy running back to back dyno comparisons of shricks and catcams. Catcams made more power.

I did see one dude with a R27 made 219hp with schricks on stock ecu and stock intake

Theres always variables to account for when doing Dyno pulls that can lead to variations between setups / cars / etc. The post above is great because its the same car with different cams back to back to back to show us, all this equal, which made more power.
