Catcams 5504402 - OWNERS thread, Q&A

So, the point of this thread is Q&A:

1. where did you install them
2. other mods that you have
3. your impressions / dyno charts
4. any problems / issues
5. how many miles/kilometres do you done with them installed

???

I'm personally interested in the answers on the above questions because I'm having a nightmare with my 5504402 Catcams and the performance loss.

In every setup that I had this cams car was slower than before the cams and I don't know what's the cause of it?!

The cams have been installed the last time with the timing tool from KTech Racing and the car has been remapped...

However - the dyno charts showed loss of power (~170bhp) and when I raced my friends that I've raced before (and they had nothing done to their cars) I was more than 5 lengths of a car slower than before the cams.

My mods were:

V6 airbox & K&N panel filter
matched/ported inlets
head work (ported valve "tunnels")
catcams 5504402
y-pipe
decat
miltek exhaust
lightweight flywheel
remap

Best results I had with:

V6 airbox & K&N panel filter
matched/ported inlets
miltek exhaust
lightweight flywheel
remap

of course - the remap was always different, depending on the setup.

I'm seeing noticeable gains on the KTech web page and I refuse to believe it's just a marketing trick, but I had nothing but trouble with the cams and the agony started on March 2010. with the first install of the cams (had at least 3 more, 2 made engine fail).

TBH - I'm really jealous when looking at all those power figures with the same hardware that I have/had, and I had nothing but the loss of:

Power
Engine
Money
Nerves

In this order.

Jesus mate am gutted for you, modding is a horrible game at times but to lose power on that scale there must be something well off the mark...

I would be pretty confident that the timing procedure hasn't been applied correctly and your cam timing is out. Using the correct tools is one thing, using the tools correctly is another altogether

True...true...but, three different mechanics & the same outcome = performance loss...

I've corrected the work of one "specialist" on no fewer than 5 ocassions, and I know others who are geographically closer have done even more from the same place

What mapping solution have you used?

Like I've said before, there are only a few clio 197/200 out there that have had significant mods and with successful outcomes. I've also had best results with:
V6 airbox
matched/ported inlets
miltek exhaust
remap

A very respectful 196 bhp.....Cams seem to be the mod of discussion and choice ATM but heard so many people having timing problems, I'm not jumping just yet.....

May I ask, is that 196 @ the wheels or the flywheel?

The same thing here:

V6 airbox & K&N panel filter
miltek exhaust
lightweight flywheel
remap

TOTAL: 195,1bhp at the fly, started with 185bhp.

And the car was really fast!

I'm really interested in the owners comments on how long they have the cams in their car and how pleased they are.

Reason you might not be getting the results is due to the oil pressue going through the cams isnt high enough and so it doesnt lift the cams proper , K-tek discoverd lots of them as tested on mine yesterday, and today.

may help ?

I had 2 sets fitted to mine nearly 3 , Its somthing that catcam have done on a few sets , Im not a mechanic but k-tek explained what happend to mine as they fitted all mine up but it was flat as a pancake, after 2 days of them working on the car they discoverd it was somthing to do with a part in the kit thats causing the cam not to lift up ( oil pressure )
K-tek are sending there's back to get new sets made as catcam are and have not been aware off this issue untill today ,

thought i should share that with you , if your still unsure email k-tek maybe they can explain better than me.

Mine were fitted by 519automotive and all seems well. Performance is improved, if minorly but I place that on the mild setup. TDF informed me that my oem lifters will only live for 30k at a time though due to the high lift.
