My Full Fat Mistress - 293bhp F4RT - The end of an era...

Sad that a Meg swap make more financial sense than a new mk3 engine....

Almost makes you want to drive around on the limiter a bit more

Sorry to hear about engine Mr F. Onwards and upwards.....Boost has taken me some time to get use to. It does make it a different animal but it opens so many options and developments...double the Clio's torque isnt bad either. Let me know if I can help in any way mate.

Damn, this is what they call ''not a problem but an opportunity''. Very sorry to hear that Angel, did you find out why your engine died? It shouldn't have really, even under hard driving...65k miles are not a lot I would have thought.

Yes you've all guessed it, I'm moving over to the dark side of boost..

You could say my day has been eventful. Obviously the plan was to get the manifold fitted, engine mounts fitted and remapped. Unfortuntely the engine was deemed terminal so only had 3 options.

Option 1: Remove engine and rebuild - prob the most costly. with all the parts needed plus the labour it just wasnt an option. I priced up a forged build but was looking at around 3k, and OEM parts were still over £1400

Option 2: Clio engine swap. I found a couple of engines on ebay and trough a few specialist breakers but they were asking silly money, one asked for £900 for just a bottom end, I guess the prices are higher because there are not many 200 engines about. I found 1 for £1500 but something didnt look right. There was a clio cup race engine on eBay for £1500, i think it may even be Priol's old one but I just wasn't sure about a race engine tbh.

Option 3: Meg it!!!

I proposed this option to Noble and they were more than happy to do it, they have a lot of experience with race cars, kit cars, one-offs and Nobles so I'm more than happy with their capability and looks like they are quite keen on the project.

After a bit of searching I managed to source a complete megane engine for £1,000 when I say complete its everything, engine, turbo, manifold, radiatiors, pipe work, starter motor, water pump, alternator, air con pump, wiring loom, ecu, injectors and a load of other little bits. The engine will be with Noble on Thursday.

Looking like i'll need the downpipe but thats no problem, and possibly an intercooler so any advice is much appriciated.

They will be giving the engine the once over and fitting new plugs, timing belt, aux belt and the pre tensioner thingy, all major service stuff. For the time being i'm staying with the Clio gearbox, i have the latter version and its not give me any problems so it should last for a while.

Once i sorted that out I got on the blower to Ktec who agreed to swap over the 2 top engine mounts to the Megane versions, they are now in the post back to Ktec so really pleased about that.

The manifold is also going back to Toyosport for a full refund. As I got it on eBay I was covered by the distance selling regs so could return it within 7 days. So unfortuntely we are not going to se the results from this beauty until someone else gets one.. Mason, now is the time to hit that buy it now button.. lol

I prob could've done things cheaper but it needed sorting today, not sure when i'll get it back and i know it'll be a different animal to what I had and to what I was hoping for but the idea of stage 1 boost is actually becoming more appealing.

Its such a shame that my recent airbox install is now coming out cos I loved the sound, not sure what i'm doing about the Nos yet to be honest, it may stay, it may go.

I have been checking Shaky's, FMP's and Kris Darks treads on here and Cliosport so hopefully I shouldn't run into to much trouble and if i do it cant be any worse than this morning..

good thing i told u to check the engine mounts then huh , good new that they swapped them over, and good news on the refund for the manifold.

couple of things, cam, belt to be done as well dont forget, and the menage radiator dont fit
also get them to check the alternator, some have have been known to fail, just listen to mine lol

I'm slowly coming round to idea that I won't be screaming it but as you say Litchy the torque will more than make up for it. The Clio gearbox should make it fun.

Agree mate, the engine shouldn've lasted longer, note sure on why it died but I will find out, one cylinder had absolutely no compression, the other 3 were very very poor. I'm sure once I get it all sorted I can look at the Clio engine, might be able to recuperate some money

Might be me but I'm sure you use Clio top mount. Not sure about the rest.....

I thought that too but Jonsey said not so I rang Ktec and they said the bottom torsion bar is the same with the top 2 being different

Just read this thread from beginning to end. Have to say your car looks the nuts but sorry to hear about the condemned engine :-( onwards to meggy power though! +nitrous also?

where did you find an engine that price?

Just did a lot of ringing around and played the "buying now" card in my negotiations.

Thank you, meggy power is growing on me although I think I'm going to have to do something about the noise (or lack off)..

More noise can surely be easily remedied? I mean my little 1.1/1.2 turbo with the silencers removed make a lot of noise! So surely with the 2.0 turbo will be even louder with a decent exhaust? gotta get a dump valve ;-) might sound immature and chavvy to some but the sound is addictive ;-)
