Mixing engine oil

Got in the car last night to "top up engine oil" so pop into the garage on the way home and brought a litre of 5-30W fully synthetic and threw it in. Spoke to dealers this morning and they told me they put 5-40W fully synthetic in.

Will it hurt or do I need to get it changed ASAP?

the other 80% is still 5w40....i wouldnt worry

I imagine any professional will tell you it's damaging but I've been doing that for years on lesser cars and it's never damaged them.

Better to have mixed oil in rather than it running at a low level...

It's still oil! Won't it just mean it will burn off faster?

That is very true. Oil is better than no oil!!!
