I wouldn't mind doing Brands at some point. One day!

Also the 1 series looks to be a competitor in the 750mc 116i trophy. They're normally about 115bhp and aren't allowed any engine mods.

There’s usually a load of those 116i racers at Donington, driven by ‘Arrive and Drive’ types. They can be a real pain in the arse.

I washed the Clio yesterday. It was covered in rubber marks from Snetterton and Brands Hatch. It took ages to get the rubber off with a combination of gentle caressing with a faux sheepskin furry wash mitt, and when the car had been wiped down a lot of tar remover. It would be rude to drop it off at the garage looking a mess.

It scrubbed up okay.

I was involved in meticulous planning on getting the car to AW Motorworks today. Alex is about an hour away from where I live, but 15 minutes from my office. I drove the Clio to work and persuaded the Wife to drive to AW Motorworks to meet me there.

The Clio is having the full cam belt treatment tomorrow. It is also having all of the passenger side ball joints replaced together with a new suspension arm fitted.

I did try and fit a PowerFlex engine mount a few months ago and failed miserably. I tried another engine mount to put the insert in to and still failed. I ordered a new mount insert from Kam Racing as I had gone to the extreme of shaving parts off the other insert in my attempt to squeeze it in with a combination of grease and a vice. Alex has been given the engine mount insert and is going to sort it for me.

Brands Hatch at the end of August 2021 was track day number 4 for me. I think I have got to the point where I finish one track day and then am looking forward to, or are planning for the next.

A LSD is definitely on the shopping list for next year.

I collected the Clio from AW Motorworks today. The car has had it's cam belt, water pump, auxiliary belt, dephaser etc., etc done. The passenger side ball joints have all been replaced. The troublesome PowerFlex engine mount that I failed to install is now sat inside the engine mount nestling next to the engine.

I had a chat with Alex and he said that he had taken the Clio out for a test drive and was very complimentary saying that it drove well. He also said that whoever did the first cam belt change had failed to replace any of the additional parts and had not used the correct tool to do the timing. I am pleased that I took the car to someone who knows how to change the cam belt correctly. I am also feeling reassured that the engine should be good for another 5 years, it certainly won't be doing 72,000 miles, before it needs the belts doing again.

Alex is well worth travelling to and clearly knows his stuff. He comes highly recommended to anyone in the South East who needs a Renault Sport specialist to work on their car.

Most of the rubber bushes/parts on the car have now been replaced. I still have the ARB bushes, outer and inner track rod ends to do.

The next project is a V6 airbox and battery relocation.

I have just had a short drive in the Clio and have noticed that a knocking noise that used to come from the passenger front side has now gone. It was not a loud knocking but more like a metallic pinking noise that I would hear when the front passenger side wheel went over a bump or down a light recess like a drain at the roadside. I had no idea what was causing the knocking as it was there when we got the car, it was there before we changed the suspension and it was still there after the B14s went on. It did play on my mind that as @EthanMenace was smashing the front passenger side wheel over the kerbs at Snetterton and Brands Hatch that the knocking noise might develop in to a real problem.

It is no longer a problem and looks like the plan to refresh all of the suspension parts has paid off.

I have driven about 5 miles in the car but I have not noticed any real difference with the PowerFlex upper engine mount insert. The car still has its classic French rattles but is no worse now that the engine bay is fully polybushed.

I took a photo of the cam belt work, although there is not much to see.
