Best track tyre

I've been hearing very good reports about these too...

It seems the Asians are really upping their game in the tyre wars, yes there are still ditch finders out there but at the upper end they are producing really hot tyres. Take Federal and Hankook for example, 5 years ago no one would touched them.

Another one to look out for that's getting good reviews is the Syron Streetrace:

Great Price and they are only up the road from me might have to look at these when I need some new tyres:thumbup:

Click the tyretraders link above the pic, that's uk. But it's more expensive too.

Early signs seem good in the dry, you can hear the noise of them sticking as you drive over white lines and different road surfaces. There also better than I thought they would be in the wet, they still have a tendency to under-steer but this is to be expected with any front wheel drive car, but they hang on better than I first imagined they would with around 1/3 being a slick type design. The true test will be on Saturday and Sunday when they have some laps around the ring!!

I've bought 4 of these, I have currently got ad08's that are due to be changed, so I shall write a review once these are fitted as it would be good to compare them having driven in all weathers on the ad08's too.

My last set were Kumho V70A in medium compund and I thought they were on par with the R888's. I found them to be a bit noiser (whilst turning on track not general driving) but the R888's worked better in the wet.

At the price theyre spot on mate and lots of the guys on meganesport use them.

How long did these last?

I've just bought some and a simple drive home from work (9 miles), driving normal in traffic and they are really hot, I know the roads have been hot lately (weather wise) but going to ring in sept and for some reason I think will be worn out by then.

A mate has used them before on a Mk1 escort and thought they only had about 4mm of tread when new, I asked the guy selling them and he told me they had 6 to 6.5mm of tread when new, HE LIED, they have just under 5mm (he then sent me a 6 month old tyre and a 5.5 year old tyre but that's another story)

Kumho v70a's in k60 are in a different league to R888's and are used on many sprint / race cars.
Also fitted as std to the new mini gp which is quicker than a r26r on track and the bac mono.

r888's are an average track day tyre and go of very quick but must say they are probably the best cold weather / 1st, 2nd lap track tyre.

If you want a hard wearing good tyre the Dunlop dz03g will take some beating.

I'm currently using v70's k60 rear and dz03's front and finding this a brilliant cost effective solution on fwd cars.

That's quite good hearing that people do mix semi slicks and prove to work well.

yep, I never put my rears on the fronts as that just results in buying 4 tyres at a time which is very expensive.

In the dry it is fine to run your tyres non directional to add life, ie, just rotate fronts.

I never rotate from front to rear either. These tyres I have now are the only ones I have as they weren't new. Came with the wheels, which has resulted in me buying 4 new, which I don't mind as 1 I had repaired from a puncture and the other I have damaged a sidewall recently. Bad luck tyres to say the least lol.

I seriously doubt that a Mini GP is quicker than a BAC Mono.. There is no way on this earth that a Mini GP could beat a 1:14.30 round the Top Gear test track.. Which is also faster than the Atom 500.

The 2012 Mini GP posted a time of 8:23.00 at the ring which is over a minute slower than the Supercar/trackcar territory of the BAC

Haha, no you read it wrong or I wrote it wrong.

Mini gp has kumho's std fit and it beat the R on track and kumho's are also the std fit on the bac mono.

I always quote the above as people see kumho's as budget tyres but in Motorsport they are very very good hence car brands like BMW mini and Bac have selected them.

Sorry for the confusion.

I fitted a set of r888 on my car for Mallory park race meeting this week end and they did not go off, I was very impressed with them, 2 x15 mins race, hot weather and my times were within half a second every lap for 14 laps bar one, so I disagree they go off and are average.
