Best track tyre

Thanks N0ddie..there is a sort of GB therefore the price of R888 is very good..
I browsed..there is GG and SG available in 215/45/17..GG being medium/standard... I ordered.. thanks anyway.

a048's are the best for outright dry grip! Trust me I've owned an Exige s and done the tyre games!! The guys on the SELOC forum are fastidious about there tyres!

They say a048's are worth 1.5sec a lap of r888's around anglsey - never tested myself but there are some serious track addicts on that forum so I'm inclined to believe them

So in a Nutshell which should i buy, ha ha
I did a race meeting at the week end at Brands hatch,Track attack series in the Nippon Challenge class, there were Subarus, Skylines, Mitsubishi's Etc etc in the same race, i was on my Road tyres ( Michelin Pilot 3, only used once at Donnington for a track day, i got these as i was going to do the Michelin Clio cup series, but costs are getting out of control with it, i have now brought all the kit and converted the car but the organisiers just keep moving the Goal posts, now saying we need to use Control fuel at around £2.50 a ltr) so i am reluctant to enter, but anyway, my Road tyres did seem to be a major disadavntage( not to forget the 3-400 bhp i was down) but they were also running cut slicks etc etc so i am looking for something better than my Michelins for the next meeting
What should i get

Do you need a cage to do that series?

Is there not a tyre truck at the race meetings? If I was you I would go to a race tyre specialist and talk to them. They will know everything and what compound to use.

Maybe keep the Pilots 3 for when the track is wet?

Has anyone tried DMack tyres? Looks like they are gaining a very good reputation in motorsport and performance circles, prices are ment to be very competitive.

Tempted to give them a try.

They do a very similar looking tyre that is an e marked tarmac rally tyre.

If you download the brochure you can get specs of it and it looks very good with a decent temperature range.

Don't think there is anything wrong with using a rally tarmac tyre anyway, afterall they are designed to be used on roads very quickly.

Yep cage needed ( I just happen to have one for sale as well 8) )
Heres a link to the regulations

gonna keep the pilot sport in case I do a michelin Clio round(maybe rockingham) but was going to get another set, so got wet and dry set but now think I will just get a set of cut slicks for the other series and hope I don't need a spare (I know Michelin will be at the Clio rounds so they will sell me one for £120 special series price :thumb1: )

tried the AD08s at the weekend at croft

very ompressed with these, especially compared to road tyres which seem to go off after about 3 laps - these just keep going

i played around with the pressures a bit and in the end settled for 32 hot front and rear

i found the passanger side rear really got hot as the day went on and had to drop some air out a few times but i tend to turn in on the brakes alot to get the rear to rotate.

yokohama recommend 32-36psi hot for track use

i might have a play around on my next trackday with higher pressures but 36 seems quite high for track use.

Got feds 595's on at the moment and can't fault then at all, unbelievable grip on the roads, not taken them on track yet but will be using them when I go on track at traxx

How about the Nokian zLine?

I've been hearing very good reports about these too...

It seems the Asians are really upping their game in the tyre wars, yes there are still ditch finders out there but at the upper end they are producing really hot tyres. Take Federal and Hankook for example, 5 years ago no one would touched them.

Another one to look out for that's getting good reviews is the Syron Streetrace:

Hi all,

I've fitted a set of the Syrons (225/45 17) on Saturday, signs so far, they seem pretty good. I'm off to the ring on Friday so I will let you all know how I get on there
