LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

£390 fitted inc VAT @Quaife if you send them the box.
Also mirror finish detailing are good round here mate, or DIY it took me 7 hours to fully detail mine with the mrs helping... lol.

can't see that being a rebuild though, that'll be just the box stripped and diff fitted, probably new seals that is all.
I want all new syncros and bearings etc, gearlink (who ktec use) want about 900 for a full rebuild with 6 new syncros and bearings etc.

7 hours cleaning, think I'd rather drink bleech mate. I once spent 2 days solid on a car prepping for selling it, many different coats of products etc and it looked incredible. Not doing it again though, weekend time is too precious even if it's just sat in my dressing gown playing COD!! lol

2 leave.... 1 will return!

Some concern over pinion shaft length, not 100% the 4.7 FD will work,- if not I'll have to get 4.9 from Italy. £600 though!

Haha, very sharp! Yeah oil stains so blankets all the way! I'm a lazy **** with an incredible tolerance to dirt - but permenant marks and damage def not!
Hell I can see if I ever turn up to a show or something I'll have to make sure it's mentally clean!

Dreading the bill, the guy I wanted to use (worked subbing for 20ten racing who do Clio race stuff) has seemingly dropped of the face of the earth. So I've taken it to a local specialist but priced as such too! Depending how much we need to replace new, I don't think I'm looking at less than £900 :worried: And if I have to buy a new FD my bonus is rinsed before it's even landed in my hands :@

edit: it was packed with boxes after that photo too to make sure they didn't move and scuff anything!!

Bloody hell! Pricey stuff. Really hope its going to be worth it!

Is that £900 just for the labour and parts, not including how much you paid for the boxes and the diff already?

Yeah that's a worse case with 6 new syncros and all new bearings. And yes spare boxes + diff on top. Hoping I can use items from both the boxes and get away with just buying new 3rd and 4th syncros. Should be more like £700.
As long as the FD can fit ok then it'll make a nice difference to the cars performance. But if it won't fit I'll be pissed, it'll mean buying the pricey FD from Italy or I might mix the 003 and 031 ratios on the stock FD's. Means being without a car for a few days though.

Build looks awesome, really good to see someone going the NA route with a Clio. Don't suppose you have a spare gearbox casing from the spare box?

Afraid not, but the Scenic casing possibly wouldn't have worked as externally it was different to the ones used on the RS. It had a lot less metal around the diff housing, so even if the bellhousing did mount up, it wouldn't be adviseable.

My 200 box is coming off tomorrow though, I'm undecided what I'll be doing with it but I might let it go?? Obviously 4th gear needs a synchro.

My new box I decided to buy new 3rd and 4th synchros from Renault, the new ones are steel so should last vs the original brass items. I've not heard of any issues on the other synchros and as my 197 donor box had only done 27k they were all fine. Even 3rd and 4th were fine on that box, but whilst it was apart made sense to fit the steel ones on those.

Box is on! Not much chance to have a play just driving home in the traffic, but def quicker!
Also this gave opportunity to check that the TTV steel flywheel is actually in there, as I received bugger all photo's from Engine Dynamics.

Tech 1 did the work, great job as always  They've done a fair few jobs for me now and it's always spot on. Despite the fact I don't often wash the car, I am incredibly fussy and stuff has to be done right, and with them it always is.

....And speaking of washing..... I'm going to be pushing the boat out and have a full detail and ceramic finish!! Should have the exterior matching the quality of the items I've been pumping into it over the last year I figure!

Glad to hear it's sorted. Don't be afraid to drop a trader review in the new section if you were pleased with there service, sure others would appreciate it in the future when choosing garages.

Yep will do tomorrow, I'll collate a few of the images of work they've done.

I've also ordered a small carbon fibre catch tank to install before the track day, and also some bulkhead grommets so I can at long last get my bloody oil temp and oil pressure gauge installed!! (no one mention the Recaro's I've had for what, 18months?!!)
The catch tank is nothing special in as much as it's not baffled, but I wanted something primarily light as I'll be going out to atmosphere from the tank and not back to the inlet so a baffle is not important for me. Of course using a matching 'Green' breather filter to match my induction

And to remind myself what they look like..... ****ing Recaros lurking somewhere in the house!!

Brilliant mate great progress! The Corbeau Club sports look suspiciously like those Recaros! Which ones are they? :O

They're Reacaro Apex, just had a Google - yep they do look almost identical, and the price!!! Bargain or what.

I'll use you as a guinea pig and see if they are much cop before I buy mine then :-p. Yeah crazy cheap for the pair, they are on my shopping list!

I've just installed the club sports in mine and their really good quite comfy surprisingly and supports well. Defiantly worth a look at.

Which size bucket and what waist are you? If you dont mind me asking, I know they are quite small widths.

haha, different seat but interesting point - I'm going to go sit in mine right now! I've put a quite few pounds on since I screwed my elbow up and stopped going to the gym (a year ago!!!!) lol
Arms not 100% yet but really need to drag my sorry ass back in and do some cardio at least! Typical all or nothing attittude I have though so no motivation to just grind away on a ****ing treadmill!

Really interesting stuff. Clios should ideally be NA and not turbo (and that's coming from someone with one). I looked at every option to keep it NA, but the costs to get to even 220bhp were hard to justify. If you look at the ITB White one on here a few years ago (featured in French car too) over 15k+ on engine mods alone and it still never ran right when he sold it. Clearly the rally cars are producing good power but you couldn't live with that engine in a road car. I wish you well but do your research (which is clear you are doing) as there's good reason why there's not many been done.

As a well respected turner told me over 4 years ago, get the clio running right and drive it like you stole it. When it comes to the point you need more power, buy a different car. I Megged it instead. I miss the NA though.....

Sorry for the holy post revival but just been looking through this thread for the first time.

The white 197 was my old car and it ran beautifully on ITBs, i did several trackdays with it faultlessly. It was also sold on in perfect working order and I still occassionally speak to new owner who takes it to Spa regularly for trackdays there, still working great! Say you want about TDF but as far as I'm concerned they were the best out there by far.

Absolutely no idea where you got your information from there pal...
