Melting steering wheel update

Need to ask the the over seas lads on there forums if they are aware of any probs
Will pm the ones I know

This steering wheel blistering is also happening with my 08 plate 197. I contacted Renault UK today . The customer support manager said he had'nt heard of this blistering before now - yeah lol. He asked me to take some photos of the wheel and E-mail them to him, which I have done tonight .I will let you know how my case progresses.

Update - Renault UK will not take full responsibility for it because the car is out of warranty ( only by 6 months ) . I have only owned the car 5 weeks, the Customer support manager at Renault UK - Amos Winfield ( a guy that says he'll call you back & never does ) said the previous owner might have caused the blistering to the wheel because they could have had a skin / sweat condition that had a reaction to the leather  .

Well get back on to them and ask to speak to Haley Ward and explain to her what has happened and if they say they not heard of this problem say why did you replace Roy Wooldridges twice in 18 months plus the idiots always blame hand cream or sweaty hands.also the wheels are not leather as leather does not melt.do not I repeat DO NOT give in till you get a result because you will

Haha , sweat condition heard it all , jel pm me your reg details and I will pm
Them both then they can marry the cases together .

Also call my contact as well, I think it's going to be a case of hassle them all as much as possible.

human palm sweat contains small amounts of acid, used to be called rusty fingers when I was back at BAe you could handle certain metals without cotton gloves your fingerprints would form on it after a day or so.

But to cause the damage their stating your blood would need to be 100% sulphuric and there's only one species I know of like that and that's a fantasy creature the alien

Dear Mr Butterfield
*
Thank you for taking the time to speak to me recently regarding your concern with the condition of your Renault Clio Sport 197 steering wheel and also the amount of people that have experienced similar issues according to the forums you have visited.
*
As discussed, it has been very disappointing to learn that after nearly 4 years your steering wheel is showing signs of blistering and peeling in numerous areas. We do supply a 3 years or 60,000 mile manufacturing warranty and as we are now outside of this period any offer of assistance we provide is considered as a goodwill gesture.
*
We are proud of all our vehicles and understand the importance of our customers having safe and reliable vehicles. We invest significantly in our design and manufacturing process to ensure our vehicles meet customers’ needs, regarding both the day-to-day driving experience and subsequent maintenance or repair requirements. The Renault Clio Sport 197 in particular is a very popular model and the issue you have brought to our attention is certainly not a usual occurrence.
*
In conversations you have had with me you have mentioned that this is a known fault on the Renault Clio Sport range. Renault UK do not have any inherent faults on any of our steering wheels and specifically the Renault Clio 197 Sport range despite the objections you have raised around this. Although we cannot confirm 100% what has caused the damage to your steering wheel as I mentioned on our most recent telephone conversation, there are external forces that can have a detrimental impact on a material and we have seen this on other vehicles. These can include non specialist cleaning products, hand creams and heat.
*
Following the inspection of your vehicle at Blackburn Motor Park, it is in our opinion that the blistering and peeling your have experienced on your steering wheel is not down to a manufacturing defect. However as I advised on the telephone as a gesture of goodwill based on your loyalty, the age of the vehicle and its low mileage I would like to offer a financial contribution of 70% towards the cost of the repair. This will bring the cost down from £434.38 to £130.31 which will include a 12 month parts warranty.
*
We do value your feedback and appreciate the time you have taken to talk to us regarding your experience. Your comments will be used in our continued effort to improve our products and services. I sincerely hope your dissatisfaction in respect of this issue has not dampened your overall experience with your vehicle and I would like to thank you again for taking the time to contact Renault UK.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please call me on our freephone number 0800 072 3372. Our dedicated Customer Relations department is open from 9.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank holidays).

Have a read guys . All been told different things slightly , where do we go next because I'm not hanging my coat up just yet !

I accepted 75% towards mine so if I were you I would accept it and have it done
As for the no known problem bull****
This is my second in two yrs

Done a bit of researching and found Vinyl will break down and crack with combination of human sweat and UV rays, but for leather it is UV & IR rays cause a chemical breakdown to the collagen that is within the leather

But still knowing that the steering wheels are handled, you'd expect them to coat the wheels to protect them and having never seen this with other makes of cars, they must be doing something to protect their leather wheels

Just [poor quality materials. My other half has a 2006 ZS fiesta that has a Leather wheel, and it looks and feels different. Its not melted and looks as good as new. All RS Clios suffer. Nothing ever became of the CS thread and look how many names that had!

You never have any problems with 'Leather' Laguna wheels for instance, so its just a material cost issue imo

Got a response from Renault uk (Hayley Ward) after having my car inspected by my local garage. She is going to contact them to try and identify what may have caused the issue and get back to me. Mentioned that they would be unlikely to cover the full cost but will help fund a replacement. Waiting for the next phone call which is going to be on Wednesday. Can't fault the service so far.

Latest update to mine is - Renault UK will cover the cost of fitting a new one & my local garage where I bought the car only 5 weeks ago said they will only charge me cost price for a new wheel ( how kind of them ) so in all my final bill will be £ 325.
