Yiannis' Albi Blue R27 - Toning down...

I'm sorry to hear that too. Never nice to see someone have big troubles, especially not while away on such an epic trip. Roads are pretty spectacular out there huh? What are you doing? Furka and Grimsel etc?

Still an amazing thing to do, even in a crappy car. Hope you're managing to keep up!

Oh and it's always good to see someone who puts fun above out and out speed!

Cheers guys. I'm now having huge problems here. The garage came back to us saying it's the gearbox. Now I know it's not that and that they are talking ******** however the breakdown cover refuses to take my car back to the UK because apparently it can be repaired before my return date. The cost...3500 euro (lol)
I told them that even if it's the box I can have it repaired in the uk for £500 but they are not having that, they just want to avoid the transportation fees so I'm stuck in the middle. I really don't know what to do, especially as I know that it is not the box!

Cheers ///M we did some black forest and we are now at the usual passes in Austria and Italy (Grossgnockler, furka Robo, silvretta, great St Bernard, petite St Bernard etc)

Pretty awesome roads and spectacular views but my trip is really ruined.

3500 euro for what? new gearbox? I had gearbox repaired by Renault twice. First, it was 4-th gear crunch, by the time i've put quaife diff. Second, I had gears 4 and 5 from TL4-003 fitted along with gripper final drive. And It was nowhere near that amount of cash. More like 800 euro each time. For 5-6k euro you could have Sadev (used, but still). Silly quote for sure. I feel for You. What were the symptoms of the failure?

Wow mate. That's a real shocker. Probably worth getting on the French forums and pouring your heart out to them and seeing if anyone can help. Wouldn't trust Renault one tiny bit. Fingers crossed you can get a positive outcome here.

Thanks guys.
I'm taking the car to another garage for sure, the problem is that I'm not there at the moment as we are moving all the time, I'll be there on Friday and we'll see how it goes. I'm absolutely certain it's the cv joint.

When I inquired about the damage through the breakdown people (nobody speaks English I'm afraid and I'm talking to them through the European cover) they told me it's the diff because the noise comes from there, however they can't change the diff as such but only the box.

Spoke to Sean from Jade developments and he told me that he has never ever seen a quaife making a noise, let alone a ticking noise only when turning left! He told me that it is very possible that the spring on the joint moved somehow (maybe the driveshaft got pulled when the car was on stilts) causing this noise (he has seen that in the past). I tried to explain that to them but they won't have it. I think I might have to nurse the car back home...

I also enquired about the price....wtf! A brand new box don't cost more than a grand!! However the breakdown people think it's realistic and they want me to pay it otherwise they won't support me in case of a breakdown should I decide to drive the car back home. Such a nasty situation to be in..

I've got a spare 197 diff with the cw&p if the worst comes to the worst and the diff is ****ed, and you need one bashing in there to get you home. I can send it out there if required.

**** situation though mate.

Thanks a lot Rich, appreciate it mate. Running out of time here but I wish I had spare cv joints, I'd pop to a generic garage and had it repaired.

If it's just knocking when fully steering don't worry mate, you can make it home easy!

I've had knocking cv's on my dci for about 60.000 miles before i replaced them.

Eventually a good update with this. My car is now with Sean (Jade Developments) in Leicester after me having arranged the transport. I used shiply to find a transport company who quoted me a very reasonable amount only to receive a phonecall from the breakdown people to tell me that they finally agree to repat my car! To cut the long story short they will reimburse me so it seems that the patch of bad luck I've been having has come to an end...(famous last words)

Now all we need to do is diagnose and repair the car which is going to be a warranty job so I'm not fussed whatever the damage is to be honest. I just can't wait to get her back.

And here is my only footage from the trip before the car broke down, me, 2 Exiges and an Elise, all supercharged with AD08s and Nitrons. Good fun before the nasty thing happened:worried:

Just thought I would ask whilst its in my head. On the first page you posted some pictures, one of which is a gear gaiter - where did you get it? Easy to change?

Thanks,
Matt.

Good to hear that your luck is changing for the better Yiannis. Fingers crossed the the repairs are done quickly so you can get back to enjoying her.

im glad it is getting sorted mate...have you got a warranty on your car still???its like 2007,isnt it??
nice to see her back running 100%..

MATT93 as Pav linked even though mine is slightly different. I've got relatively smaller writing on the alcantara and the plastic trims have been sprayed by sprayshack in here. It's very easy to change yes, just pull off the gear knob and job is a good one.

But thanks a lot guys, it's been a really stressful period but it seems that I got there eventually. Pav when I got the car I got in under extended Renault warranty mate which I kept renewing it. Since them I've made loads of claims, more than I have paid to renew it in the first place. The good thing with them is that going to an official Renault Garage is not required (a VAT registered garage would do the job) therefore I don't have to deal with the nasty dealers...

smart thinking..would have done the same if i had a chance...hope she is back with you asap..let us know what the damage is...

Obviously my bad luck didn't stop me from taking pictures through the trip so I've got a few great views that require sharing:smile: The problem was that for some reason the camera reversed back to the default settings and all the pics I took was with the lowest resolution possible...:worried:
