I'm still not convinced removing it has any detrimental effect. It is called a "soundproofing unit"... that to me says its only function is to reduce induction noise at low RPM, which is typically what you use in urban areas where it matters.
I'm not saying remove it as I have, I haven't seen any gain, simply less loss when the car gets hot.
I suppose you could duct cold air to the opening of the valve, so at least when it opens it has a better supply?
