LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

You know what it's like mate  how is your Rallye as it happens? I saw my old one was up for sale earlier in the year - did think about it but it had some damage on the front which was a shame. Talking of old school -I just the other day read JP's thread, christ he's gone full retard on that thing!! I'm pretty sure it was him I sold him my old Jenveys to, but they arn't on the car. Looks like he went straight from the curved GMC setup to an SB special!

I am sorting mapping on my Rallye at the moment. As you know things have been slow, made worse by buying a house and getting married last year so it's been on he back burner. Will never sell it though. It's insane to drive lol.

Yes josh has or some mega money into that car. Lovely engine and suspension work. I have to admit I wouldn't spend that on a Saxo if it was me, but there's no doubting how excellent the car is. I know I've done similar to a Rallye, but in my mind a Rallye is more unique and rare. I would say I probably have the best S2 on the planet which is something! While it's not too externally modified or 'ruined' as it were. Hopefully will have it done soon. You've reminded me to chase Michael Longman as he still has my ecu![emoji106]

What spec was your motor, Longmans build wasn't it? Yeah I agree I wouldn't do that to a Saxo, Rallye will always have cult appeal so is justifiable - whereas the Clio 200 is of course the best hatch produced so equally justifiable!!!

Just paid for some genuine R3 Maxi injectors, probably turn out to be (expensive) Meg ones but at least this way I can be sure they are right.

LY200 NA forged rebuild - standalone ECU

Yes it's a longmans build. Nothing is standard lol. Sounds epic too and paired with a close ratio Quaife box. Just need to finish he damn thing. Oh I agree on the Clios they are goddamn fantastic[emoji108]

If anyone is interested, the R3 Maxi injectors arrived today, and, they are Meg 225 items as I suspected. They carry the same normal Renault part number on the body, despite having a different part number when ordering through RS! But I didn't want to take a gamble although kinda annoying as it cost me £186, whereas you can get Meg 225 ones from RenaultCarParts off eBay for £132!! Still, at least I can put R3 injectors on the spec sheet now because I paid a premium for it!!

Other interesting point is they have the same 8 hole pattern as regular Mk3 injectors, these obvioulsy have a shorter nose too but obviously not an issue as Renault Sport use them in the Maxi's. Also I know of a tuning company using them on a Mk3 Turbo Conversion (not my place to say whom though) and again no issue with idle or low resolution mapping.

Well this is plug and play as with any injector that fits the stock fuel rail. But really the words 'plug and play' and 'injector' don't go together as you need to remap for them. Even % based map wide scalling is a bodge because different injectors will respond differently to varying pulse timings (i.e injectors are not completely linear).

Oh yeah physically fit fine, they are a standard Pico injector with a 39mm centre to centre between the o-rings. Only difference is they have a shorter nose, but as said RS using them in the Maxi, plus the other place doing the Turbo conversions - so no issues.

You could maybe try Corsa VXR injectors, they are 322cc at 3bar, long nose. Probably ideal really, just need to check on if they are standard Pico length (I think they are). However I'm 'mostly' through with taking gambles now hence going for the R3's.
I'm going 1 grade colder on the plugs too by going to an '8', I note Maxi's use 2 grades colder with a '9' (NGK scales of course). I'm running 0.5 more static CR than a Maxi Evo, but, I'm not flat out all the time so I think an '8' grade will be perfect. 4 x BKR8EIX are less than £30 so even if I have to change them every 6k with my oil it's no big deal.

Which SA you going for? Get my SA ECU next week and dropping the car off on Monday! I thought you sold your car though, you sent me a picture of an R8...??

That combination fell through it was a long shot...:worried:

VEMS SA.

What's the ccm on OEM injectors?

If I was about to switch to new injectors, I wouldn't go for smaller than ~300.

And what plugs are you using?

from Clio to R8, would be quite the jump! I'm not an Audi guy by any stretch, but I do like the R8. Especially in Nogaro Blue with carbon packs!!!

Not sure what cc the standard injectors are, I think ClioSport.net thought about 280cc was what I read. I was going to test them but decided a waste of money and just buy the R3's and be done with it.

Plugs, using NGK grade 8 iridiums (BKR8EIX). I used the 7 versions on my old car which was originally a 6, and never had any issues doing that so will use them here as I am also changing grades by 1. Actually they are being fitted right now (yes I'm too lazy to even do my own plugs! ), so I'll know by the afternoon once I've driven it how they are. Will be better once mapped next week and the reason for doing so (which you probably know but others not) is by using the higher grade plug they'll run cooler and so I hope to just ensure I'm that bit further from any knock.

Good you are keeping the car though and playing still  Still got the NOS? Did you sell the inlet you were working on?

Yes, still got the nitrous, that's one of the reasons I'm going for the VEMS.
I need two seperate maps for the N/A and nitrous because I've burnt one copper NGK spark plug when the bottle was full and heated (had probably more than 80hp shot) so when I arm the nitrous VEMS will switch to the nitrous map and when it's not armed it will be on the N/A map.
The other reason is - turbo. I'm hoping to switch to turbocharger by the summer of 2017. That's why I'm collecting info on the injectors and the fuel pump. This thread is most helpful.

The most important term was that everything remains STOCK.
I don't want a "Christmas tree" dashboard.

VEMS will be for the fuel map and ignition timing, and stock ECU for the rest.

You'll have to decode all the Renault canbus stuff then for VEMS to not light up the dashboard. The Specialist Components ECU will as of next week have integration with the mk3 Clio. We actually suspect it already works, as the Clio with a Meg engine conversion uses the Meg ECU and everything in the dash works like normal - this implies the canbus coding is the same between cars. As SC already have a plug and play ECU for the Megane.... it should just work with out needing any changes. Not my problem even if it needs all decoding again, they want to have the car and ensure full compatibility anyway

P.s Don't go turbo!! If you get a standalone, you can run ITBs!! Who gives a crap about power then, NOISE!!!

and R3 injectors assembled on to spare fuel rail.

Bloody darn sight harder than I thought! Removing the old injectors was mega stiff, and getting the clips on again was a fiddly task. Reminded my I paid someone to do the oil and plugs this morning!!

Not my job. I'll be paying a specialist to implement/install it in the car.

ITB? I can have it in combination with turbo. A friend of mine has it in his ~400bhp 172T.

Sound vs power? I choose power.

I agree mostly, normally you buy the ECU your mapper is most familar. Problem with the mk3 Clio though and canbus cars in general really, your are almost required to go with what the market offers and then seek out a mapper after, even if they are miles away. Or like you say, get them to develop the ECU to integrate with the canbus - but, if you are paying full labour, certainly here in the UK we would literally be raped with the price to do an ECU etc. Needs a tuner to 'sponsor' it and absorb the labour basically so they can develop a kit off the back of it.

Oh and wrong choice btw

This is why ITB's own boost, all day looooooooooong!

Price is 1200-1500€ for the ECU and the installation. Depending on the time invested.

Good price, if it doesn't go beyond that. Would be about €1500 for the SC ECU with mk3 Clio adapter, but then you'd need to map on top of that.
