JMR's LY200

You sure Renault wanted £180 for a pair? As looking at Renaultpartsdirect site alone they are £299 for the pair!
I went for SNR from GSF when they have 60% off for £145 for the pair (they make the originals).

Yep, staff price
Nice find with the SNR ones, wish I had know I would probably have gone for them.

The Pagid's are ok though.
Stop well enough, don't squeal, the Brembo pads seem to like them, and the wheel bearings are fine so far.

Haha well that explains it then! I looked everywhere and could only see £100 more!
Yeah I had SNR on before too, it comes with nuts, covers the lot, so actually a bargain

Little (uneventful) update.

The little LY200 has had a fantastic winter all tucked away and done hardly any miles.
I bought a AWD Honda CR-V at the end of October as a daily driver during the winter months.
I've shod it in Vredestein all season tyres so I've got a "go anywhere, anytime, any weather" solution

So the Clio has had a cushy time

I've racked up 3000 miles in the CR-V which would otherwise have been on the Clio so thats good news in my eyes.
In fact the Clio has only done 3.5k since its full service last July :sunglasses:

Trying to keep the RS as mint as possible and now, as low miles as possible, jeez she's only on 50k.

Still hoping to find a solution to the stiff 1st gear when cold. When warm, happy days.
Might drop it into Midlands Renault Specialists as they are only 1/2 hr away.

I've used Mick @ Diamond in the past and he has been great, but its a good hour away and I end up having a day off work to take it and collect it in working hours.

I'd appreciate thoughts on MRS at Creswell from anyone ????

Update on the Osram Cool Blue Intense H7 dipped headlight bulbs.

Got the car out on Tuesday night and the drivers headlight bulb had blown.
I'm leaving the passenger side in until it blows.

Replaced with like for like Osram CBI again.
I guess they've lasted almost 13 months, but the car has hardly been used really, which is disappointing.

If they go pop again I'll replace with the Osram long life bulbs, even if they are yellow.

Unfortunately that's the trade off with the CBI bulbs. Mine lasted roughly the same amount of time and it was only one that went out. Stuck some bog standard ebay ones now (sidelights).

Not been back to this thread for a while !

I still have the LY200 and it's still running really well.

Just had it serviced again at Renault, and just passed its MOT.
Only done 2500k miles since this time last year, which is good in my book for keeping it in top condition, but it really deserves to have been driven more.
Then again with coronavirus its stopped us doing a lot of things that we had planned this year.

When in at Renault I asked them to look at the front subframe as it was showing signs of corrosion.
Great news, RUK have approved replacement of the subframe under the 12 year anti corrosion warranty as its got holes in it and it is corroding from the inside out.

Booked in to have it done in the next few weeks.

Result.

PS. Bulbs are still working lol

Update

STILL have the car :thumb:

Not been used much and its been parked up with the handbrake on so I've had it up on the ramps this afternoon and stripped and cleaned the rear calipers as one had been grabbing a bit. The inner pad on the drivers side was stuck in the caliper.
It all freed off ok and the pads looked alright so everythings been greased up and the sliders have been greased and so far so good everything is alright.

Have put it away now with the handbrake OFF, left in gear and chocked.
Will keep my eye on the pads/calipers in the coming months when we'll be using th car more, and if I have any more trouble I'll replace the calipers.

Got some microswitches on the way thanks @Frank Perry so I can fix the lock button on the exterior drivers door handle.
@turkie172 has pointed me in the right direction too thanks again and I hope to get this updated into the thread in a few weeks time.

As mentioned above I did get the front subframe dropped and replaced by Renault under warranty which was a nice result.
I'll get some pics uploaded soon so you all believe I DO actually still have it LOL

Its in amazing condition tbh - I think we've done <1k miles since last service/MOT

I have some drives planned in it now to have some fun up in the Yorkshire Dales and over the North Yorks Moors.
Now lockdown is easing a bit - that will probably be end of May into June.

Funny on the last service at Renault in August 2020 the technicians comments on the service check sheet was "like new" :relaxed:

Just a little job I've been meaning to sort out for a while.

Tarnished wheel bolts!

Popped a couple of bolts out of each wheel at a time, degreased them, prepped with a sanding pad and cleaned with IPA.
3 coats of Hammerite satin black spray paint, then fit them at the end of the day :thumb:
A light coat of Optimoly TA to the threads before fitting, and I mean very light.
Torqued back up to 130Nm (140Nm seems awfully tight, and these bolts are identical to the ones on the Porsche and they're done up at 130Nm with Optimoly)

You can see on this old photo that the nuts just look grey, they've deteriorated since but I didn't take any before pics

Pic below is A BIT CLOSE UP!! LOL
But you can see the 4 standard bolts have a nice black finish to them now

I haven't done the locking wheel nuts (and I only refit these back hand tight, a decent arm on the 1/2 ratchet will suffice, I'm scared of knackering the locking wheel nut key if they're on tooooo tight.
I will probably give these a waft over in the coming weeks.

Anyway - happy with them, wheels look much more presentable now, but has highlighted the fact that I need to re-paint (or replace) my centre caps.
I think the genuine Renault ones are matt finish though, not gloss?

And I'll have to take all the wheel bolts back out to get the wheels off to poke the centre caps out :unamused:

Looking good, next step black calipers with Liquid Yellow logos?

I'd like to clean up and repaint the calipers.
Probably just stay grey as they are, or tempted for red, but then it looks like I've got the Cup chassis, but I've not.

Thinking though, black calipers would look stealth particularly behind the all gloss black wheels :sunglasses:

Read through the whole thread and that is one pampered LY it looks fantastic.

Can I lend you a slightly less spotless Pearl White 200 for a few weeks to have the treatment?:blush:

Long time again since posting.

Back in April 2021 I was having issue with a stuck rear caliper.
Freed off the pads and cleaned up the sliders earlier in this thread.
Came to MOT time in September and I needed a new o/s handbrake cable.
Not an expensive fix, about £16 or so for the cable and I don't know about £30 labour to fit it.
I bought some new pads to be fitted at the same time so the back brakes and handbrake were spot on :thumb:

LY has done very few miles over winter.
Little job I did at the end of November was cleaning out the scuttle panel drains.
I noticed that when I cleaned the car, and hosed the windscreen, I opened the bonnet and there was some standing water, draining slowly in the scuttle under the plastic mesh grille.

Thinking this is not right, I used one of the guides on here to address the issue.

Pics of my findings and after cleaning

On first removing the scuttle panel

This was the side where I had the slow draining water. Drivers side.

You can see the drain hole, where the little rubber plug is in the bottom left corner, a bit of sunlight shining on it.
IMG_4845 by *JMR*, on Flickr

Again a slightly clearer shot, you can see its full of crap. There's hardly any hole there to drain water out and down.

Passenger side didn't look too bad but you can see where the dirt and water has been sat.

Pretty messy, and overdue a bit of attention

This is the passenger side hole that need cleaning up

When I poured some water around it

IMG_4854
by *JMR*, on Flickr

I used a spray bottle, and took the plastic pipe off it and stuck that in the rubber plug holes to clear out any mess.
You could instantly feel it moving dirt out of the way and you could see the water draining down, and coming out under the car.

Heres the drivers side after a good clean with APC and a bit of polish

Job done

IMG_4861
by *JMR*, on Flickr

Easy enough job.
Most difficult part was being careful removing the wiper nuts.
Drivers side was easy, passenger side was a bit stubborn.

No breakages though, and I put some copper slip paste on the threads so they'll be easier to get off next time if I have to do them again.
I've had the car 4 years and only done this once.

Good job with the maintenance! Just looked back through your thread, the car looks in excellent condition and highlights just how bloody fantastic Liquid Yellow is, especially with the black contrasting parts. What's the mileage on the car now ? (if you don't mind me asking)
