Hi there, another potential rs200 owner

hi all, I've been reading the buyers guide on this forum with great interest. Looks like a fantastic place to gain some insider knowledge and experience before taking the plunge!

I've always liked small, sporty cars which are great fun to drive. Over the past few years I have owned a ford puma, Toyota celica t sport and an mr2 roadster (no, I'm not a hairdresser!) but due to a lovely baby boy being born late 2015 I've been the proud owner of a Civic 1.8 5dr ever since. I bought it as a compromise between being practical enough for a small family and yet powerful enough to be fun and by and large it's not been a bad motor. But we replaced my wife's city car with a small MPV last year and now the little man is big enough to use a group 1 car seat it's time for me to put a bit of motoring fun back in my life.

I've been looking at civic type r's (fn2) for a while but for some reason I haven't been inspired to go and drive one. Maybe it's because I already have a civic, I don't know. But recently I have got to thinking about a Clio rs200. It's nothing definite yet and I'm in no great rush but it's about the only suitable car I can get really excited about. I'm just not into turbo power, for me performance should be accompanied by the sound of a screaming n/a engine which is what I enjoyed about the toyotas. So naturally the Clio is up there at the top of the list.

Not 100% sure what I want yet as there are a lot of differing specs, colours and trims to choose from. With the type r it's just a matter of black, red or silver other than which they are all the same! I have become used to my creature comforts so it'll be a full fat version (is that right?). I'm undecided about cup chassis and also reccaro seats as that does seem to limit choice a lot. I've also noticed that many cars on auto trader and eBay are not advertised correctly so if nobody objects I would like to post some details of possible cars with questions as they come along?

Cheers

Chris

Ask away mate, we are a really helpful friendly bunch. If you join for £5 it will give you access to the for sale section and how to guide which will show the most common problems.

Okay, I do have some questions!

http://jdmotorcompany.co.uk/vehicle...verstone-gp-3dr-1-former-keeper-a1-condition/

Right, just as an example really. This car caught my eye as it's a special edition (I have learned that there have been a few). But after reading the guide I'm not actually sure it is what it says it is. Should the silverstone gp not have reccaro seats as standard? Also it's maybe a bit overpriced?

Its not a silverstone edtion just another dealer that hasn't got a clue . Yes recaro seats are standard in the silverstone edtion .

NOT a Silverstone. You are correct it should have Recaros and Cup chassis (red Brembos signify Cup chassis), badges on door frame. They were only 50 made.

Thanks mr freeze.

I'll be looking at a Gordini this weekend. It's stupidly expensive. Also plan to see a local car next week and hopefully test drive it. That's a black one with black wheels. I'm pretty sure neither is 'the one' but it'll give me food for thought.

Ah yes the cup chassis. I wondered if there were visual clues. The local car does have red brembos but the ad doesn't mention cup chassis.

Here's a link to that one....

So that should have cup chassis?

I kind of like it. Definitely like the spoiler. Not too sure about the whole blackness of it although I guess it's not a big deal to change the wheel colour. It's only down the road so worth a drive. How does that price stack up value wise as I have no idea really?

No problem were here to help mate its just a learning curve with these cars has they come in a lot of different version which can be confusing but you are in the best place to get advice before you make your choice

Ok I'm going to confuse the situation. They calipers look painted to match the disc mounts IMO, the car looks like it's sitting too high for Cup chassis plus no Brembo decal on front calipers. Also the wheels have been painted. If I was looking for a 200 it wouldn't be this one.

Hmmm yes Locke, that's exactly the reason I'm on here! It's really not that easy for the untrained eye to spot this kind of stuff.

It's not my favourite colour combo anyway but I can at least have a drive to get the feel of the Clio. Good to know it's on the standard chassis as I can see if that would suit me better.

Most of my driving is A and B roads with some nice, interesting country lanes to and from work. It'll never really see a motorway but also will not be going near a track so I really don't know which chassis is best for me yet. I like the sound of the cup but I'm not sure I actually need it. Can the standard chassis still be fun to chuck around? I'm 44 now and don't tend to drive like a lunatic (mostly).
