Has your gearbox been replaced? Yes or no?

Have you had the gearbox in your 197 / 200 replaced?

Well, I got mine back today finally. 3 weeks without it! 1 week I was tooling about in the wife's 120, the other 2 have been in a Fabia 1.2. To say it feels weird driving the 197 again would be an understatement!

In a funny sort of way I think I quite missed the old girl in the end, bearing in mind I've just not been fussed by the car for some time now.

Just put my car into the garage today. Bad crunching when changing down to 4th gear and also a bit sticky changing up to 4th. Apart from this the gearbox is ok. Started doing this about a week ago. My car is a FF 200, 18 months old and has a bit over 11K on the clock. Car went in at 11 this morning and had a call around 4pm confirming that it required a new gear box. Had a 197 previously and had absolutely no gearbox problems, it was an 07 plate and had the original shorter geared box, don't know if it makes a difference to whether it's the revised gearbox or not.

Which garage you in at?

Arnold Clark in Stirling. I'm from Falkirk but don't use Arnold Clark in Grangemouth because the service was bad there although that was about 10 years ago and have always had good service from Stirling in the past 10 years I've used them.

This has been taken from the Renault official forums.

"Forgive me RUK but I believe the best method is to get the names, numbers, models and plates of all the recent RS vehicles which have suffered with major gearbox problems under 50k miles/4 years and start a single collabroative complaint against Renault for fitting an item to their vehicles which isn't fit for purpose - doesn't last a reasonable amount of time within acceptable use.

Do it properly, do it politely and await a response. Upon this it may be advisable to contact CAB. If you can't get anywhere with that, then Renault won't be happy if the word gets out their award winning RS models have major oem equipment flaws.

Mine doesn't appear to have any issues (yet) but I'm not looking forward to it if it was to occur."

Mine has not gone wrong yet...

Could we find a representative from this forum, then we can collect all the data and gather it all together.

I do not mind doing this, but my knowledge and understanding of the gearbox fault and what causes it is limited.

Do you have quote how much gearbox rebuilding with new uprated syncros will cost in specialist? Or at least how much those uprated syncros cost. Clio 197 / 2007

It's quite simple chap - synchromesh failure on 3rd and 4th gear is what I reckon most if not all would be.

but how they are made and what they consist of ie the whole gear they are not cheap - if just the "baulk" ring wears/fails these are not too bad a cost approx £27 for 4 of them and 2 of the others are about £34...

just then the labour for changing them

What I can do for everyone, if they want, is post up what was done on mine - part no's and prices. A fair bit is in french so if someone wants to translate it that would be helpful. My french doesn't extend as far as car parts!

u being serious? not to sound bad or anything but most garages will charge around £45-£55 an hour to remove and replace a gear boxand i belive its about a 5-6 hour job

That's not to replace. That's to remove, strip, rebuild and refit

I was listing everything so people could get a handle on what is probably failing in most cases, as mine seems to be one of the few to be repaired rather than replaced.
