same lol
Which is why i'm dubious to pay 2k+ for another ticking time bomb:scared:
same lol
I got the call from RUK today, they are going 50/50 to fix the issue which I am more than happy with
Had my car into the main dealer on Monday to get their recommendaction of a £2k new gearbox (4th gear crunch) only to discover a) The RAC warranty that a different main dealer gave me doesn't cover main dealer labour charges and b) the warranty company wants someone to diagnose the specific problem to see if it's repairable.
Off to an indy gearbox specialist I go and they've discovered that the 4th gear synchro is shot and 4th gear is worn down - a warranty assessor is going to look at the gearbox tomorrow or Monday but the garage suspects they'll call it 'wear and tear' and not cover it...on a 4 year old 37k car!
Had an open line of communication with Renault complaints department the whole time (both regarding **** dealer provided warranty and chocolate gearbox) and they've said that if the warranty company mug me off that they'll review it...fingers crossed as I don't fancy £570+vat for the repair the garage has quoted!
Can anyone who has had positive outcomes PM me with their vague details of their issue and what contribution they got towards repair? A reg would be handy as if there's a precedent with other cars it would be good to be armed with the particulars!

Check with RAC by phoning them but if you got the warranty from a dealer I suspect it would be the same level as mine.I have an RAC warranty as well, I didn't know they didn't cover main dealer labour charges! ****s! My second gear has been crunching occasionally so I imagine the synchro is on its way out.
Please let me know how you get on
Got the go ahead today new box on order from France:clap:
The crunch shall now be abused:lol:
just so everyone knows what the problem is with the syncro's....
they are made from carbon (like honda boxes) and over a period of time they are breaking down and leaking the carbon bits in the box oil...
All new boxes are again being fitted with brass synchro's
Spoke to RAC Warranty company today and they're going to cover the gearbox repair for 4th gear+synchro - saves me £570+VAT and I got it in the garage 4 days before my warranty ran out!
Garage is reporting my clutch is worn (4 years old and 37k miles??) could this be a side effect of the gear box or is it potentially nonsense?
