Gordan the Gordini

What's your goal with this car? As in the end result?

Pure track car for track days or a daily?

Both, but I think I'll cage it once I get a cheap diesel and settle in around a job. It'll be purely for a weekend car/track day car then. Once I start putting more and more in to it, I'll retire it as a daily then. That'll be after a good few years though.

At the moment the idea is to turbo it, keep it as a daily. It'll have a low boost setting so should be quite reliable with the forged internals on low boost.

will you be looking into getting some upgraded suspension too??

Certainly, after the engine though. The standard setup is enough for me and the corners at the moment. I don't tend to go around at a ballistic speed just yet, getting there though. Once I feel that my limits on the corners are more than the cars and I start understeering etc I'll sort it all out then, diff included.

Have you done a trackday before Kaz?

Plans sound good 8)

No, but I'll probably be extremely cautious first time, no silly moves. If it's anything like the ring I'll be sitting on the right side for most of the lap lmao. Work my way in slowly. By that time though, when I feel confident, I'll probably cage it and retire it as a daily then. May take a long time though, it's not something I'm gonna push for after investing a lump in to the engine. Will hope to enjoy it as a daily first and once I rack up a fair few miles, retire it and have a good time on track with it).
MCM fan??

Certainly! Gutted about Moogs hand, waiting for next episode still....

Yeah I saw something about it on facebook, not sure what happened. Would explain why no vids for a while, but Mod Max was epic!!

If you do go ahead and get this done, you won't regret it!
But if i were you I'd personally be going with the Megane route, buy a lump and rebuild it to your ideal spec....it's a well proven setup and if you were to have any problems there is several people that know how these Megane conversions happen.
I'm not knocking the clioturbo route as I've yet to see a conversion in the flesh, but given the option, I'd be megging it [emoji2]

I'm just waiting for him to reveal his new car ... About time he got rid of the S2K, it wasn't doing it for anyone. I didn't mind it though, was different.

If there are any Megane 275 engines knocking about, I'll be sure to pick one up, but it's highly unlikely. This is why it's easy for me to just go with this.

I hope I don't regret it! It may be a pain in the ass, as nothing is straight forward, but once it's on it's feet it should be a blast.

There's plenty of low mileage 250/264 engines around. They'll be the same age as your Clio.

Id be really considering buying a Meg lump from the likes of RenParts where the engines are tested and come with warranty. Just on the basis of it's made to take boost. The standard pistons etc will be up to the job. No messing around. Plus a meg LSD box will bolt onto it with ease.

Plus you can recoup money by selling your complete low mileage engine and box.

also, you could buy the meg lump/box etc sooner whilst still being able to use your car, get it all serviced with new belts/pump and plugs, then the swap would be much quicker.

What you gonna do for travelling whilst the conversion is being done?

If I live in Chippenham, next to the job, I can just bike it to work  The Mrs has a car so she can pick me up and drop me off if I need to go extra distance she won't mind, I would do the same for her.
Gez , I'll have a look mate. Appreciate it

So, news....

Gordan is in for the big 5 year service at SJM Automotive.

Cambelt,
Aux belt,
Water pump,
Temp sensor,
Thermostat,
Coolant,
Brake service,
Insurance - £717

All in all: £1,324

I'm skint for a bit lol.

So £600 for all that service work? Quite good! I'm going to take my megane along to dan at some point

All done.

Dan was very helpful and seemed a genuine guy. Was happy with the service.

He mentioned that my pads were crumbling so they're the next thing on my maintenance list.

He emails the invoices so I'm still waiting for mine, will put it in the cars handbook when I get it.

Forgot to mention, I apologise to everyone when I mentioned that my thermostat doesn't go over quarter, this is incorrect! I've had both my sensors replaced and it now sits either on half or just under. I think this is terrifying thinking that my engine didn't know it was running hot and thought it was only quarter tempreture.

My wipers are officially broken on full speed, I suspect this to be from failing to unclog the drain holes. I'm not going to do anything about this as full speed is rarely wanted.

My switch for the passenger window doesnt double click anymore, so I've got to hold it to bring it closed again. Again, I'm not bothered about this either but just some faults I've noticed over the last 2 weeks. Must be the 5 year fad lol!

Would recommend. You won't really find someone who has the tools for Renaults in a backstreet garage and if you do, they won't be genuine. I can't recommend a specialist enough tbh.

You'll enjoy his collection of 172/182's that have been abandoned there. You can't miss the workshop lol! He doesn't need a sign.

I've had the invoice now.

All sorted, phew! I was worried as that was my only evidence that it had been done, but OK now.

Got some oils together for the 30k service. I've also got some NGK Platinum Spark plugs.

Need: Ball joint, discs and pads all around, full powerflex engine package

I've purchased some regular rensht pads to tie me over, can't complain for 100 quid. Hopefully that will get rid of the squeeling when driving in dry whether.

I've noticed a nasty clunk from my steering rack when I mound the kerb slowly with my left wheel. The left wheel being the one still running the original ball joint, so that's on next months shopping list. Should be a nice little pep service. I've also done the cabin filter myself.

Only thing I'm concerned about is the brake fluid. I can't seem to find evidence that it's been done so hopefully I'll get that sorted along side the purchase of a better brake setup.
