Gordan the Gordini

wish i was Kaz but doing the Route 500 with Chris91 and Jimmyd81...hope its as good as it was last year..have you booked track time??

Negative on that! Maybe one day, but I still don't feel ready for it yet. I'm a confident driver on the road, but thinking about driving on track makes me too nervous rather than excited. I'll probably book an experience day to help remedy the anxiety sometime soon

Is it anxiety about doing damage to the car, or as your abilities as a driver?

If it's the driving, I think a trackday is probably the best place to learn the limits of your car and yourself as a driver - especially if you get tuition from one of the instructors

I'd be nervous about doing damage to my car though

Both mate.

All the times I go to the track to watch cars battle it out, there always seems to be one tool on the track who almost ruins someones year.

Best one I saw was at the recent Forge Action day. This guy in a white focus st missed the turn in at the bobbies in Castle Combe and instead of using the run off, passing the mini tyre barrier and re-emerging outside of the bobbies, he piled back on to the bobbies directly in front of another car who was going in epically fast. I have NO IDEA how they didn't collide but the other car had to swerve on to the grass. That's what makes me nervous.

My abilities as a driver, can certainly be improved. I can handle the car quite well when pushing it fast road, say, up the Black Mountains in Wales, but sometimes my hand positioning on the steering is awful; I do notice it after the corner, but then it could be too late! I have a very good response and reaction time from the feelings that the car gives me, especially when the back end comes out, so I'm not too worried there.

I've done plenty of Go-Karting in fast karts so I'm not a total novice by any means (not intermediate either, I'd like to think somewhere in the middle of the two!), but would love to get on the track on an experience day, somewhere where I can be out of the way of tools and build my confidence in my own way.

Yeah I can see what you mean, there's always that danger of some nobber that could ruin it for you.

Not to shamelessly plug it, but the track time at CS Festival could be a good option for you. I didn't drive it myself last year, but was a passenger with Pav . Because it was a CS exclusive day then everyone seemed to have loads of respect for everyone else - no one wants to clatter into another forum member!

amen to this..just bite the bullet Kaz..at the end of the day you will be surprised how easy it was to track your car...

Sounds like a very good idea!!

You got me thinking about booking a track day at Hullavington now! It's an airfield type track day, so no lovely barriers to spit you out and there are respectful rules that everyone must follow, or you'll get thrown off.

I might do this before I take up an actual track day, to get a better feel for the car on edge. There's only so much you can do on the road.

Thanks for the confidence both

I've never used it mate, I just know it's a thing that people do, most insurers won't cover track days, im with Adrian flux who specialise in hot hatches and even they won't cover track days off the bat normal insurance... (Although I know that they offer it as an additional premium for a day)

Well deserved thoroughly cleaned today! Cleaned areas that haven't been cleaned in years, such as under the boot lid by the spoiler which has always been caked in Mold on all the mark 3s I've owned.

All lovely once more. Interior is also looking brand new again and smelling lovey.

Gonna do some white badges for it! Got some gloss white vinyl wrap and going to buy cheap black badges to wrap.

Is the gear gator and your...knob  oem? I like the flashes of colour which lift an otherwise rather dreary interior. I'd be tempted to replicate this.
All standard mate apart from the alcantara pillars. ☺

Thanks...very interesting. I'm away out to the car to investigate if this would be easy enough to change providing I can source one like yours.
