driving in the snow tips

LMAO Phil!

You won't be taking RB out though! I wouldn't blame you! Kerbs and your alloys will NOT mix!

"If in doubt... flat out" :tongueout:

Totally agree!

Or get your mate with a navara to drive you everywhere! :shout:

Seriously though it took me 1 and a half hours this morning, for a journey that only takes me about 45mins, and the snow wasn't even that bad! Agree with taking it steady but some people take it too steady and there is just no need for it! :f1team07:

took felix to school this morning and was overtaken cars that were just sat wheel spinning LoL.!:tongueout:sat at home with doing this now :coffee:while others are still stuck. good old landrover:uk:

Just to re-iterate the very good advice being given here:

Don't be lazy... go out 10 minutes before you want to leave and clean all your windows properly before setting off and...

Look further ahead than the end of the bonnet - observations need to be way ahead and plan for the worst happening in front of you before it happens in front of you and it's too late.

It's all just common sense and self preservation really.

Just heard a new one...keep cat litter in the boot to assist with gritting...it's on the BBC webpage, so it must be right...lol..

Off to buy some now!

Get away!!!

Peugeot 207 got me from Stocksbridge to Killamarsh this morning with not a single wheel spin!!

FWD ALL THE WAY

I get wound up by people that dont clean the snow/ice off of their lights...

Winds me up too, had one of those ugly pointless BMW' crossroaders pass me on the M1, not only were his/her lights covered with snow, but also the side windows and mirrors, this total disreguard for road safety was matched by the 90mph + that were doing in a blizzard... Co*k

Yeah just because the vehicle had 4wd doesn't mean you are invincible in the snow. 4 years ago just after passing my test it snowed heavily by us. Coming down a hill that's a main road doing 15mph being cautious. The road wasn't clear as the snow had caught the gritters by surprise. Next thing a X5 overtook me and the car in front at probably about 40mph. He braked for the roundabout and the car started sliding. Luckily he managed to slide through without hitting anything. If there had been something coming there would have been a huge accident.

I have no problems driving in the snow I just have a problem with some 4x4 drivers who think their skills match their cars percieved ability. Yes speed is needed for going up hills but so many people just can't read the road and don't realise that stopping distances are massively increased.

Bit OT now, but my MIL has a 2008 X5 4.8, great car, and doesn't have massive wheels, but she has noticed that it isn't as good in the snow as her 2001 Lexus RX. The reason? The Lexus has narrower chunky tyres, the X5 has tyres that look nice, and would be great for scaring hot hatches around the 'ring, but aren't much cop in slippery conditions.

The X5 is a brilliant car, and with the right tyres / in the right conditions, it is very convincing, unfortunately many are driven by cocks. Same goes for RR Sports, Merc ML's, etc. many of which are supplied with tyres that are fully appropriate for 85% of the time, but that seriously let the car down when the going gets slippery.

I also saw some shameful driving from an idiot in a late model HiLux with big rims yesterday, but then there are people in every kind of car driving like morons in this weather.

i am not looking forward to driving back to the UK on friday.
the germans know how to drive in the snow/ice/slush and the country doesn't sh it itself and close everything, unlike the UK. as said above, there is always some cock driving like the stig in the wrong conditions!!

Agree with RalphyBMW, its not about what car someone drives that makes them a co*ck it just their general attitude on the road.

I think BMW drivers and Audi drivers get a bad name cos most of them are company cars and people with company cars generally dont give two ****s about the condition of the vehicle, this lack attitude usually extends to their road manners as well..

Im sure plenty of BMW/Audi/Passat/Merc drivers label us a "Boy Racing Yobs" just because we leave their 320D's like they are stood still.
