Do I or don't i?

If the gearbox does go its only the synchro's so you can just replace them instead of replacing the whole box, keeps cost's down

What's the point? The boxes are so cheap. Unless you can do the labour yourself, i doubt you'd be saving much. Might as well just get a fresh box.

And mine went at around 60k for reference. Completely out of the blue.

Don't know what your bothered about, i know one lad that likes the gearbox's so much he's had 3 of them. Personally i've just settled for the 2 of them. Having said that the 197 only ever had 1.

Is it common, hummmmm i'd say it too common but it is on other cars too, i guess you hear about it more on a RS due to dedicated forums. Google any manufacture followed by gearbox problems and you'd get lots of results.

EG
Vaxhall About 502,000 results
ford About 3,900,000 results
renault About 1,460,000 results
honda About 2,640,000 results
mazda About 1,710,000 results
toyota About 3,410,000 results
bmw About 3,440,000 results
audi About 2,110,000 results

so going from that simple test i'd say renault are doing rather well.
