Sorry to hear that mate, have you replaced the 3 engine mounts? Gets quite annoying changing parts and trying to guess what It could be. Process of elimination all the time it seems
i have a knock on the front left side of my 197 - this may be the solution. is mister-auto a reputable site?
Yes it is. I've just had the anti rotation links, track rod ends and anti roll bar drop links delivered from Mister-auto. Cost me about 100 quid all in.
Parcel was shipped from Belgium. I bought the TRW track rod ends and anti roll drop links and Lemforder anti rotation links(dont have a TRW branded anti rotation link listed on the site). However all have TRW branding on the actual part.
thanks for the response... hopefully getting my car booked into a local garage for diagnostics then a call to the RAC (warranty) to see what they are willing to cover. probably not a lot so I shall no doubt have to order the parts and get them fitted myself :-(

It's been years since I bothered with the knocking on my Clio (apparently everything is fine according to multiple dealerships and independent shops), it doesn't bother me terribly, but it is worse on summer, especially when the car's been sitting in the sun too long.
Reading this thread I'm inclined to try replacing the drop link arms with Lemforder ones, they are pretty cheap after all.
My symptoms:
Knocking (clunking) from front left and/or right side when going over certain bumps/speed humps or getting off a pavement, sometimes its there a lot, other times the car is silent for days.
Also: when doing parking maneuvers, I get a clunking sensation from the steering wheel when moving the wheel around, almost always at a certain point of the wheel's travel. If its cold, this problem doesn't manifest itself - when the car's been sat under the sun for hours, its really prominent.
What's been changed while I was under warranty:
Front shocks
Front shock mounts
Steering rack
Steering column u-joint

I had a pulling issue start a few years back and got progressively worse on my 197.
I keep on top of the suspension components maintenance and have changed all the ball joints, I purchased new bottom arms as the ball joint was split. I've since added Powerflex bushes to the arms and anti-roll bar.
Top Mounts are also really common to go, and when fitting my KW V1's, you do not require a bearing any more.
Tyres - New Yoko tyres (AD08R) for a Nurburgring trip were also something I ruled out from my previous Hankook Evo v12's.
My 197 is on 90k mileage and I was aware of 'play' in my steering rack, the most recent replacement was a new steering rack, specifically the 200 Cup rack, as it was cheaper and fits the 197.
Had the car tracked, and it is now driving perfectly straight. The steering wheel used to fall away to the left, but that is no longer the case.
Depending on what you have replaced, I'd check for play in your steering rack.
Your clunking issue could well be the steering rack. Parked up when going lock to lock, I could hear it was obvious the rack had a problem.
Last time I checked Renault's pricing was approx:
197 Cup Rack - £399.80
200 Cup Rack - £279.19
197 Cup - Part Number: 8200822946

Does anyone know where I can order a genuine dogbone mount online? All I can seem to find is a Febi after market part (in my previous experience they don't last long).
So i took my car to a local renault specialist this morning to diagnose the faults and to see what would be covered under warranty.
- new manifold - not covered under warranty
- new stabilizer links - not covered under warranty according to the RAC as they suspect the fault existing pre policy start date
An interesting point regarding the links is that the RAC have suggested that they were 'faulty' prior to the start date of the policy (7th June 15). This is a fair assumption.
However, the only reason why the policy is dated the 7th June 15 rather than mid April 15 is that the dealer/garage forgot to send out the paperwork and take out the Warranty policy from the date I bought the vehicle.
The renault garage want £1250 plus VAT to sort it. I shall be contacting the garage I originally bought it from back in April and see whether they are willing to sort out the repairs. If not, then I shall be seeking further legal advice to see where I stand as the warranty 'should' have been dated/taken out from the date I purchased the car.
I concede that I may have to foot the bill for the new manifold but the suspension related defects should be covered under warranty. This is probably worth a few hundred pounds in parts and labour charges. I also have an audible knock through the steering wheel when performing slow turns/parking - this sounds like it could be a problem with the rack? This was not picked up on by the garage. Perhaps I can get them to recommend that this be replaced as well?
