Good news for us car owners. 1p off the fuel duty as of 6pm tonight. The Labour fuel duty escalator scrapped from now on and an extra £100M for councils to fix potholes.
Gawd bless you sir. Stick it to those socialists *******s. :foxspeed:
You're still paying VAT on fuel at the Conservative imposed rate of 20% instead of 17.5%... what you give with one hand, you're taking away with another.
I'd love more off the duty as well, but at least we didn't see the planed (Labour) 5p rise, but the spending of the previous parliment made that impossible.
Roy - I didn't hear any mention on Road Tax. I think that is business as usual.
As with any budget, it's always best to wait and see the breakdown before jumping at the headline changes...
An example swiped from elsewhere:
When Osbourne said "no change" to alcohol duty (and this is how it's been reported by the media) - he actually should have said "we'll continue with the duty escalator which sees a 2% rise above inflation on alcohol duty every year.
We're estimating that this "no change" will see duty and VAT on a pint rise above £1 for the first time, see 10p on a pint of beer and take the average cost of a pint above £3."

i don't know what people were expecting, someone had to take responsibility of the countries' financies. labours' self-proclaimed 'era of prosperity' was by borrowing over 70p of every £1 we had. now that the conservative-led coaltion government have took responsibility they will have a bad name from doing do, and everyone will vote the scummers back in again next election.
Its annoying because I personally never borrowed any money! Yet Im being raped just to get to work in the morning. Fuel is a con, make is 75p again and all will be well with the world.
Don't forget that Labour would have had to introduce the 20% VAT anyway. If they hadn't ever cut VAT to 15% briefly then we wouldn't have had to have the rise to 20%.
Not a bad budget to be honest, given the damage that could have been wreaked.

I hear a lot of stations put their prices up 1p yesterday and then took it down again last night, so congrats in helping them just make more profit Osborne.....
