1p off a litre

Good news for us car owners. 1p off the fuel duty as of 6pm tonight. The Labour fuel duty escalator scrapped from now on and an extra £100M for councils to fix potholes.

Gawd bless you sir. Stick it to those socialists *******s. :foxspeed:

Is that really a good thing, when fuel is now verging on 150p per litre in some parts of the UK?

As for the pot holes...GREAT NEWS, will mean we can stop driving around as if we're pissed, having to dodge them all

You're still paying VAT on fuel at the Conservative imposed rate of 20% instead of 17.5%... what you give with one hand, you're taking away with another.

It's crap no matter who is in power.

As with any budget, it's always best to wait and see the breakdown before jumping at the headline changes...

An example swiped from elsewhere:

When Osbourne said "no change" to alcohol duty (and this is how it's been reported by the media) - he actually should have said "we'll continue with the duty escalator which sees a 2% rise above inflation on alcohol duty every year.

We're estimating that this "no change" will see duty and VAT on a pint rise above £1 for the first time, see 10p on a pint of beer and take the average cost of a pint above £3."

A 1p drop in fuel duty, it makes a change but it's nothing to get excited about when you look at how much it's risen recently.

Not a bad budget though, I expected worse

exactly right - they are still ££££££ in:swear: got to pay for the bombings in libya some how...

i don't know what people were expecting, someone had to take responsibility of the countries' financies. labours' self-proclaimed 'era of prosperity' was by borrowing over 70p of every £1 we had. now that the conservative-led coaltion government have took responsibility they will have a bad name from doing do, and everyone will vote the scummers back in again next election.

It has annoyed the crap out of me, I only put £50 in last night! Lol!

As others have said, take from one hand and give to the other.

Ah well, at least it's not gone up. They've got a whole lot of money to mae up so it's got to come from somehwere.

Smiles per mile. That 55p I'll save on each tank can buy me a Kit Kat Chunky. WIN.

Its annoying because I personally never borrowed any money! Yet Im being raped just to get to work in the morning. Fuel is a con, make is 75p again and all will be well with the world.

....and take the average cost of a pint above £3.....is already occuring around here!!

thats cheap!!

My pub is £3.60 for Carlsberg and £4.20 for Stella, Guiness is £4

The brewery sting us big time cause we are one of the busiest pubs in The New Forest. So the prices are out of our hands

Don't forget that Labour would have had to introduce the 20% VAT anyway. If they hadn't ever cut VAT to 15% briefly then we wouldn't have had to have the rise to 20%.

Not a bad budget to be honest, given the damage that could have been wreaked.

I hear a lot of stations put their prices up 1p yesterday and then took it down again last night, so congrats in helping them just make more profit Osborne.....

I thought they were planning to do a National Insurance hike and leave VAT at 17.5%?

15% was ace, saved me a chunk off my £25ks worth of building work and new kitchen.

I did notice both Shells on the way home had jumped a penny from the morning, obviously planning to drop it after 6... douchebags. :chair:
