Replacing Engine Mount/Rubber Bush?

A lil update on this... after changing to the powerflex mount my steering vibrated when idling and with the warmer weather recently I noticed with the A/C on it vibrated a lot. It didn't seem to settle much even after 1k miles and felt all this vibration can't be good long-term so decided to fork out for a new OEM mount and the car handles much better now I feel. The last few months my car just hasn't felt stable and lost confidence behind the wheel but now it's back to it's original chuckable, sublime nature. The only other bits I changed this weekend was the n/s upper/ARB link-arm from Eurocarparts to the OEM and the oil/filter.

This is interesting. Now, I'm not mechanically minded by a long way but to me, the fact that they're known to settle down after a while means they're losing some of their stiffness. So if this happens so quickly, what about when you've put 10k miles on them?

My gut feeling is that new OEM ones are the best way forward.

I think it's more like settled springs Mes, just with the movement of the engine etc.

But I agree with you, why I have OEM torque and lower dogbone, as I am sick of the vibrations!
It's my daily, not a track car, so most the time I spend is cruising on the motorway / stuck in traffic.

Was it the upper torque arm you changed to OEM?
Mine does exactly the same (vibration at idle + with AC on when hot), it's annoying as hell!

Yep, my upper torque arm would knock when letting off the throttle (especially when cold/~5°c) so I replaced it with the yellow Powerflex bush kit and it made my steering vibrate during idle, especially with the a/c on. I stuck with it for a few thousand miles but my steering was still vibrating so switched to a new OEM/Renault torque arm and it feels much smoother now. Hopefully once it gets cold again it won't start knocking.

Exactly what I did yesterday mate, the car came with powerflex torque mount and dogbone, I haven't swapped the dogbone for an OEM yet, but I have put the OEM torque mount on, feels so much better already!!
I'm glad I am not alone in the vibration being too much

I literally never even noticed any sort of vibrations when driving my clio, only when stationary which was also minimal. Perhaps it is more noticeable for people with more worn mounts. By replacing just the top and having worn oem mounts in the rest, it could be putting more reliance on the top arm for keeping the engine stable.

You're both just soft, car drives much better with them fitted :tongueout:

I'll admit after fitting the powerflex bush kit it felt tighter but after switching back to OEM it feels more stable overall, altho it may be as I swapped the n/s/f upper link from europarts to OEM at the same time. I feel more comfortable knowing my steering system isn't having to deal with those extra vibrations, with the a/c on in traffic it was unbearable! I am a softie tho

Yep I think that too, why I have all new OEM mounts to go on, just the torque one was an easy one to do with a free 10mins lol.

Hi, I seem to be suffering the same issue at the moment. Vibrations / knocking when coming off the throttle, seems to be play in the upper engine mount.

My question is - are the OEM rubber inserts available for purchase separately ?
I’m struggling to find any online , any part numbers anyone could provide ???

Many thanks in advance !!!

Because the bush is in a crimped cap, I assume they think people will just buy the whole arm.

If you don't mind the extra vibrations, go for Powerflex, I had them on mine when I got the car, I took them off after the vibrations were annoying me!

Strange as the power flex is sold as just the bush.

When you reverted back to standard did you have multiple Arm or just popped the bush out ?

Not really, Powerflex make bushes for many car arms that aren't sold separately.

No I had to buy a whole new arm

There is so much for and against them, i reckon its time for a proper poll and lets get a general idea/feedback?

I'm in the "too many vibrations" camp, I do 22k miles a year, the vibration was driving me mad, so off they went.
