Replacing Engine Mount/Rubber Bush?

I've had a knocking when cold from the top of my engine for a while now and found that the top mount (torque arm?) moves quite a bit when I wiggle it, searching the forum I see it's quite common.

The arm itself looks easy enough to change, just 2 bolts, altho the way it moves I think it's just the rubber bushing that needs to be replaced. I see K-Tec sell them but are the bushes easy enough to switch over or do they need pressing out?

Thanks for any info

Thanks, that's good to know.

I can't quite believe how much movement there is in the arm at the moment, I'm surprised it only knocks when cold. Makes me think maybe the other bushes are worth swapping out...

yeap..i got some chisels from a local pound shop...a screw driver works too..glad its done

I can't believe how different it feels, much tighter in general, altho there is quite a lot more vibration, especially through the steering wheel when idling. It def feels better when driving though and the car isnt for sitting around idling

the vibrations will settle down in time..mine are gone now after a few months of driving..

Hardly notice mine now mate. Won't be an issue!

+!

If they are Yellow series bushes - they will rattle you a bit at first (Idling - especially with air-con on) but will loosen up a bit after 500+ miles - and like Ben said: You'll hardly even notice after that.

Thanks for the heads up guys, I was thinking maybe it would be best to replace with an OE torque arm, as maybe the vibration isn't going to do the car good in the long term, so good to know it should settle down.

Right now the car feels great to drive, very tight and no knocks or clunks.

If you think the torque mount bush vibrates, then don't fit the Powerflex upper engine mount, it vibrates like a ****.

Sorry to bump an old thread, and apologies if this is a stupid question, but does the engine need to be supported from underneath when fitting this?

A lil update on this... after changing to the powerflex mount my steering vibrated when idling and with the warmer weather recently I noticed with the A/C on it vibrated a lot. It didn't seem to settle much even after 1k miles and felt all this vibration can't be good long-term so decided to fork out for a new OEM mount and the car handles much better now I feel. The last few months my car just hasn't felt stable and lost confidence behind the wheel but now it's back to it's original chuckable, sublime nature. The only other bits I changed this weekend was the n/s upper/ARB link-arm from Eurocarparts to the OEM and the oil/filter.

Was it the upper torque arm you changed to OEM?
Mine does exactly the same (vibration at idle + with AC on when hot), it's annoying as hell!
