197: Slight knock on throttle let off? - VIDEO ADDED

Think you were bang on the money mate, will order one this week and report back once its fitted.

I checked mine last night as you have in your vid and mine moves up and down quite a lot  so Im guessing its this mount that I need to replace as well :worried:

Took my R27 to the dealers today to have a look alongside with some other stuff (creaking clutch and ''check ESP and ABS'' indications on the dashboard). When i spoke to them on the phone yesterday they reckoned it was either an engine/gearbox mount or a driveshaft. However it was neither of those reasons. The subframe was LOOSE! I don't know how that happened or if it's a common thing but they got it sorted. Quite glad:smile:

Hi mate, did you fit your new one and has it fixed the problem? Im 99% sure that part is the one I need as its moving quite a lot so will get one ordered from Karl shortly

It should be with me next week so after fitting I'll report back.

Scary. If the new torque link dosent sort mine out I'll be getting under the car with my socket set.

Fitted the new torque link today, but still have a knock. Think its not quite as loud now but it still ain't right. Seems like its coming from that area so checked the bolts on the top mount but that seems ok too. Might just get it round my local mechanics and get him to put it in the air and have a poke around.

I remember my 172 Cup was plagued with an uncureable knock on the top mounts, hope the 197 dosent suffer from the same thing.

Mine knocks up/down. Revving the engine standing still does not cause the knock, it seems its only under load at slow speed or dropping off speed humps.

No but reving the engine will show the excessive movement that would cause the knock on load.

I would check for movement in the engine mount pins, incase they arent torqued up correctly

After fitting the link the knock now seems more to do with suspension or maybe the left hand engine mount or maybe even sub frame as mentioned by somone as its occurring less on engine movement now but defiantley still when dropping off speed humps.

Been under the car today, everything I could get a pry bar to seems solid, no knocking. Only things I can't seem to check properly are the left hand engine mount (can't physically shake the engine up and down enough to test it properly) and the strut top bearing (didn't have time to remove the damper etc). I can't feel this knock through the steering so thinking its unlikely to be related to strut tops?

Well this is getting trickier than I (and Renault) initially thought. As I said the knocking is more obvious when cold so when I went to collect the car from Renault and they told me that they had sorted it (loose subframe) I drove it back, no knocking, all good but the car was warm and there would be no knocking anyway.

Next day in the morning the knocking was still there. So back to Renault tomorrow morning for a complete and proper I hope this time investigation. Ryan197 said that in his case was the lower arm link. I'll pop a question to the service guys tomorrow to see what they'll tell me.

I had a look through the old threads and I realised that this issue has been discussed before in several occasions. Have a look here (2000 views!!)

However at the end the knocking still remained a mystery which is a bit worrying. I took my car at the dealers this morning, I made it clear that the knocking is only when the car is cold (first thing in the morning) and I'll probably leave it there till tomorrow so as when they test drive it in the morning to make sure the knocking is not there.

I told them to check everything (gearbox-engine-suspension mounts, driveshafts, steering rack the lot). I also emphasized the fact that I won't be taking the car back if this issue is not sorted, the car is still under warranty and there is definitely something wrong there.

So, fingers crossed. For any updates I'll keep you posted.

Where you frim ripgrove, a renault specialist solved mine in the end. As for engine mounts when you got excess to the mounts make sure the securing bolts are tight and the mount is pulled forward. But if its doing it going over speed bunps i cant see it being mounts, more like suspension or drive train, a way to check mounts would be to fit a big washer to the centre of the top mount.

Car is with Renault for this and a few other things.

I have asked that all Engine mounts are checked. Hopefully something will be found.

Well not so good news for me I'm afraid, a guy from Renault called me and he said that there is definitely a noise coming from somewhere (WOW well done he must be a rocket scientist or something) but I'd have to pay around £200 maybe more for investigation ONLY and even then they could not guarantee that the problem would be covered by extended warranty (which is fair enough if it is a wear and tear issue).

Bear in mind that I have already paid £100 in the beginning for investigation (that was for the knocking and another issue) but the most frustrating thing is that had I known that they'd ask for such money I wouldn't have taken the car there in the first place! I'd better pay a renault specialist any day of the week! Such a waste of time but lesson learned...I'm so NOT renewing the extended warranty.
