Yiannis' Albi Blue R27 - Toning down...

Never had it before, but Spa allowed overtaking in the Braking zones, and in the bends. I had a BMW suddenly slow through Eau Rouge, and I just missed him, as I could not lift off. Spent a lot of the day watching the rear view mirror, BUT, it rained at 4pm, so no more problems, and I stayed out for 40 minutes, until the car started aquaplaning on different parts of the Circuit. Time to stop then!.

That's it mate, I do like the Indy as well and as you say, awesome when everyone is switched on.

GP must be magnificent, I'd love to do it but I just can't afford it as it always flirting close to half a grand!
.
Just checked the website. £449.00! Presumably they manage to sell it at this price. Might have to reconsider, though it's always been a dream to drive the GP circuit as Brands was where I first used to watch motorsport. Maybe use my birthday as an excuse to treat myself one year.

exactly what happened to me at spa last week. it's a brilliant track, but when you can't keep up the momentum in our cars, it gets frustrating quite quickly. M2's and 911's creeping up eau rouge and the raidillon, then leaving you for dead on the straight before holding you up again at rivage. was the first time it was so bad.

won't stop me from going back, though ...

This is one of the reasons I megged mine. I was getting sick to death of being held up. Now it’s no longer such an issue.

That sounds like fun:wink: And you are right, it comes to show that the wet track days are way more fun than the dry ones for the obvious reasons. I did Snetterton fully wet and I was loving it, no straight line heroes there...
On another note, it would be brilliant if UK track days would allow people to overtake on bends or braking zones but I do understand that this could go wrong very quickly.

I know right? I'm sure they fully book such days, there are people out there with proper machinery who wouldn't lose their sleep for half a grand. Blimey their tyres must be 3 times that or more. I have to say though, the more expensive the track day the better the driving culture.

Fair play mate. As I said, I don't necessarily need more power for the road but if I was doing more track days the Clio would not cut it full stop and it would have been sold years ago.

that's how it is done over here and it very rarely goes wrong (touch wood). the trick is to observe the other participants at the briefing and their behaviour on track, of course. i try to stay away from the hooligans. not bullet proof, but gets you a long way. the fact that i don't want to prove anything to anyone and just get the clio back home in one piece, helps.

@Yiannis197 ... wanted to ask this before, but always forgot ... you're running AD08R's on both set of wheels, right? never tempted to try a semi slick like a 888R or a direzza?

No Peter, I'm running AD08Rs on the Alleggeritas and R888 on the Ultras, albeit a very old set which I never had the change to use up as most of the track days I've been were wet! Plan is to change them eventually with a set of rainsports since let's face it, the chances here in the UK to have a wet TD are more than having a dry one!

A few pictures from Rockingham track day with Renault Sport. An absolutely lovely day and I can not praise Renault and the organisers enough. A great selection of cars, lovely bunch of people, ideal weather, fantastic track etiquette, free breakfast, lunch and bottomless coffee/tea. The fact that all cars were more or less in the same league was fantastic, no need to look at the mirrors for radicals doing what they shouldn't be doing (practice on a track day that is) or full blown race cars trying to overtake at every opportunity. Absolutely great, the best track day I've ever done and if I had known I would have done every single RenaultSport track day since I bought this little beast.

The new Megane was also there available for a test drive and of course had a go, my personal opinion is in a different thread in here.

The car performed brilliantly, no issues at all. The setup was focused on fun and not track times, as always:smile: Massively oversteery with understeer to have been totally tuned out, a bit of a blip of the loud pedal mid corner and the car would predictably rotate. Or going in too hot and the front would find grip causing the rear to try and overtake, all good fun:smile: All helped with the rear racer axle of course which was properly tested for the first time and I have to say that it did make a difference!

A few pics and a video;

Glad you had a good day Yiannis. I'm with you on the Renaultsport track days, well organised & good to know that the cars are in the same ball park performance wise. Only done Spa with them but thoroughly enjoyed it. Wtf is going on with that tyre?

No idea mate, I always check the car after a session and was genuinely surprised to see this. Maybe it is age related to be honest because there was enough tread for sure. I've had them for quite some time as most of the track days I had were wet lol so never really had time to use them properly.

I ditched all tyres in the end and put on the AD08Rs.

Awesome post Yiannis, love the photos and the vid. The car is looking and sounding superb and most of us know all too well of your skills behind the wheel and knowledge when it comes to handling and taming these little beasts. Great stuff!

I spy my car behind you in one of the photos.

Cheers guys,it was indeed a lovely day!

saw the video now. tyres take a real battering over the curbs.

Peter do you reckon kerbs have anything to do with it? The whole tyre split across the surface that led me to believe that it had to be the age. I'll upload a pic.
