Why i dont trust Dealers

Ok air con not been working for a few weeks, took it in today. Phone call comes condensor has a hole in it after testing and filling it up with some test gas.
Told them i want to see the knackered condensor anyway i have a service account so i have the money there. But i had a feeling they would come back with something like this and yes here goes £427 fitted lol lol have a guess whats in my service account yes £500. Funny that dont you think !!! Dealers i wouldnt trust them as far as i can throw them.

Reason i have to pay is they are saying a stone or something has caused the hole so its not covered under warranty funny that eh !!!:angry::angry:

sounds dodgey to me,wouldn't trust a dealer as far as i could throw one which is why i'd never use one out of warrenty,a good performance garage will do a far better job and at a fraction of the price

I work in an audi main dealer as a technician not renault i know but the technician will not know that you have a service account. Also technicians get payed the same regardless of how much work is done (in a main dealer) they only get payed more for bonus when targets are met however i have never come across a technician who purposly damages components to create work. It would be stupid as hes creating himself more work and its not exactly a bonus smashing job. But that might just be my experience ive only ever worked at a audi main dealer and that would be instant dismissal. Service advisors job is to keep customers costs to a minimum maintaining manufactures parts and quality of work.

Im not saying they havent done this but being a technician myself if anyone done this in our workshop it is disgusting and would not be tolerated however it is also pointless as there is no gain involved for the technician unless he has a fetish for changing condensors.

This!

Why would they make work for themselves? I think its just a case of bad luck, i dont think they are out to rip you off.

On the other hand i hate taking my car to renault for warranty work as the car always seems to cover a stupid amount of miles for stupid things like headlights being replaced.

Never had any of my cars serviced at renault as you are under no obligation to. Some people think it will void warranty but as long as genuine renault parts are used the warranty is safe.

who's to say its not the manager who generally delivers the news isn't fabricating a story as you never get to speak to the technician

On a similar note, when I bought my 197 from a main dealer (second hand) they told me the front brake pads were nearly worn out. Told them not to bother changing them and when I inspected them about a month later they still had about 8mm left on them....almost new!!!!

For that reason alone I don't really trust main dealers.

The best thing you can do is have a garage you allways use and can build up a good realtionship. I take mine to the same place for everything, they are spot on with me. They allways price match for me, and i know the lads who are the mechanics so trust them with my car.

I second this... I am a tech for Mercedes and i have never seen any tech break any part on purpose! Like he said we get paid the same wage every month, other than bonus (which bonus can only really be earned on service work)!

I no what people say about main dealers, and personally i cant see alot of it is true! Cars break and we try and fix them! All my experiences i have had with main dealers seem to have been all right (renaults/fiats/mazda/toyota/citroen/peugeot) but maybe i am just lucky!

Or maybe its because they know i am a tech and i have OCD so they do things properly

Well ive based mine on one eg of my local dealer having mine for 9 days for a non start after having it trailer back 200 miles. Renault- started and cleared faults after i asked them is all electrics ok . Yes we unpluged everything and checked all fine.

2 days later breaks down with same fault and they cant look at it for a week. Cars goes to specialst with same info. Result lose conector on the tdc wiring loom hence. They toi started the car but took the time to check.

Service standard across dealers is not the same (walters renault in herts were brilliant).maybe they closed.down because they spent time getting things right. There appears ro.be no.knowledge share e which could be the problem.

Good service = luck

Of course i totally agree with what you are saying...Standards do vary across the dealers! However what you also have to remember is sometimes it can be quite hard to find to what is wrong with them. People seem to think that now days all you have to do is plug a computer in and it tells you, which it don't!

I ain't going to lie and say i am prefect because i ain't, i have messed up a few times, but i am pretty sure that its the same it every job, just like you have probably messed up in your job, we are only human at the end of the day!

But i suppose i may look at things slightly different to other people, but i would rather it went back 2 or 3 times if thats what it took to fix it, rather than them just guess/bodge things!

To be fair i have heard many bad things about renault dealers, but what i am saying is you cant then take that assumption to all main dealers. Yes there more expensive but any customer that comes in to my dealer will have top quailty work and if anything ever does go wrong (as said were only human) they usually get a refund + compensation (cash or free next service) and vehicle repaired and professional valetet by the specialist detailers.

Its unfortunate that some dealers give them all a bad name. Im suprised renault dont take more action against dealers with first time fix issues and poor customer satisfaction. Never been to a renault dealer but out of intrest do renault uk call customers on their personal number to get a reveiw of there experience of the dealer as this is the best way to single out the bad dealers and close them down to keep the brands reputation.

Not all dealers are the same/bad.

When i bought my car i was supposed to collect on a friday, calling them the day before to see as everything is going to plan i'm met with stumbling/bumbling staff who start on lies.

It's failed it's MOT and we need a drop link, then renault have supplied us the wrong type, the cup ones are different, it's going to be saturday now.

They forget things like this can be checked up, there is no record of my car failing an MOT, just passing the day i was supposed to collect it, than after a couple of weeks of ownership i'm under the car checking things are all OK and i have no new shiney drop link, just two equally rusty 3 year old ones.

I prefer the honest approach, i'm sorry sir, there seems to have been a comunication brakedown, your car will not be ready until saturday but we'll offer you bla bla bla.

Rant over.

When I first got my 197 from a Renault dealer (2nd hand) there was a list as long as my arm of things wrong with it within a week. Fortunately, the car was purchased on a Barclaycard Credit Card (paid off in full immediately too).

When the dealer refused to sort out the issues, one quick call to Barclaycard, and the transaction was suspended; pulled back from the dealer and a call to Renault customer services made. Needless to say, every tiny problem was fixed almost immediately, especially when they found out about the transaction being suspended!!!

Great move, i paid for mine on my visa debit card, wish i'd have thought of that when trying to get the mould problem sorted

Thats outrageous do they not carry out a pre-sale check on 2nd hand cars. As as for the drop link i dont see how they can sleep at night knowing they taken someones hard earned for something that hasent been done.
