Renault Clip from AliExpress - Recommendations?

I have a 2008 Clio 197, and was thinking of getting a Clip interface, but I really don't know much about them, seems to be the Renault specific features outside of the regular OBD2 features I take it?

I've had Audi stuff in the past and had a generic adapter for VCDS, which I got from AliExpress at some point years ago.

For the Renault, is there any recommendations people have, I saw this one in the link, was wondering has anyone bought one or similar?

Renault VCI2 CAN CLIP

I bought one of the older CAN Clip clones a few years ago. It is clunky and my one does regularly disconnect when trying to do longer tasks like changing the firmware on a new radio. It was fine for doing things like coding out airbags.

The new hardware in your link looks interesting as it is substantially cheaper than the older clones like the one I bought. If you do buy one I would be interested to know if it works just as good as the OEM devices.

I bought a VCX Nano about £105 and runs Renault clip software 2.19 no stability issues and the genuine Renault software. I bought a Renolink but the software is crap and watch out for that total scammer selling them the hardware was Ok but he does not have the rights to the software so you cant activate it and he does not respond. The problem is the interface because the 197 is older the software for each component is completely in French but seems to be very powerful

There seems to be different versions like an se that you can buy support for other car brands later but each must be limited to the type of protocol used to communicate as without paying big money get one box to to talk to all brands.

That is super, I figured it would come from China and that crowd will ship direct to Ireland, so I'll buy exactly the same one as you, great help, thanks so much!

Mine is the same colour but say power for OEM the link is here

It took a while coming from China I thought it was coming from UK but the software download for 2.19 was included

What hardware are you running this on? I’ve just received it and installed CliP etc, but my laptop won’t recognise the device via USB. I’m running Windows 11 on a Virtual Machine inside MacOS on an M1 equipped machine and I’m wondering whether that’s the issue. Might have to get a cheap Chromebook running Windows 7 natively.

I think it needs to be 32bit

I'd suggest Mac & Windows as a VM is probably the cause... Grab a cheap low-end laptop off ebay. IF you got a few pennies spare you would probably do well buying a MS Surface Pro 4/5 from ebay. They're fast enough and run Win10/Win11 and come in at around £100. Light, portable and decent to keep in the boot as opposed to a chunky oldschool laptop!

Something like THIS is a good deal - works out just under £120 with keyboard and charger. i5-6th gen, 4gb ram and 128ssd is plenty!

Thanks both, bought a refurbed Dell Latitude 7280 for £135 on eBay, i5, 8GB, 256GB. It can live in the garage. Comes with Win 11 64bit but can reimage with Win 7 32bit. I’ll get my IT guy to sort it :thumb:

You should be fine with Windows 11 64bit - it still supports the WoW64 emulator so you can still run 32bit apps in 64bit Windows 10/11 O/S. No need to downgrade to a 32bit O/S.

32-bit also only support 4GB RAM, so you'll lose half your RAM capacity by downgrading. CLIP should be fine on Win 11

Anyone else bought this and had it working on Windows 11 with no issues?

Can it do everything CLiP can do, like airbags etc?
It says cars as old as 2005, anyone know if it works on 172/182 as well?
I can't confirm but it does say in the description it runs CLIP v219 if that helps...

It does come with CLIP v219 but I haven't yet got to the bottom of whether all the features are working. I seem to have some greyed out options on mine, and I have a sneaking suspicion I'm missing out on the features I actually wanted, which I'll be pissed off about if that's the case. This is what makes me think it doesn't come with all the bells and whistles:

Perhaps @turkie172 can confirm whether his setup has all the features?

Hmm is the online account, like a license type thing?

Honestly the RSTuner is decent for a fair few things and is much more user-friendly... Granted it doesn't do nowhere near as much as CLIP but for diagnostics, remapping and EPS, ABS and airbag support, it's got pretty much everything you need. Depends on what OP wanted CLIP for I suppose?

This makes my decision harder lol!

Made a bit more progress on this, with the engine running I was able to access the stored fault codes and clear them. I haven't yet figured out how to programme anything but that could just be me, CLIP isn't the most intuitive UI.
