197: r26 conversion

as some of u know, i have been trying to get this done for almost over a year, coming up 2 years, i have everything, a fullworking r26 engine with gear box and diff along with the megane ECU just for ease and importantly the money!

Now i went with 1 company got ages to get a date then when i got a date for the whole thing to start it changed 3 times in a space of 6 months or so, kept on ringing and asking when it was going on with no luck before hand
the second company are much the same, got a date of 19th march, then got abit scared cos of ECU problem which from their contact i think was abit over jelous in what he told them, since then i have gotten the feeling that they dont want to do the work, every time i contact them its either voice mail or no reply at all

now i am getting abit put off doing this whole thing, so i am just thinking of selling the engine and stuff and getting a few other bits for the car.

what do you guys think? stick at it or stop it all together

No chance of you doing it yourself mate? I'm sure lots of people would do work to help you out if possible? seems a bit of a waste after all the effort thats went in to getting all the parts :worried: plus you'd be the only blown 197 on here until this LY supercharger is fully operational :tongueout:

It would seem a shame to not do it after all the time, money and expense you've put into it. If the second company aren't returning calls I'd forget them, not worth the effort.

Have you tried some of the renaultsport specialists, KTEC, TDF, BTM, Mark Fish?

is it worth asking who the companies are who you haven't had much look with?
renault *specialists* should be chomping at the bit to get this conversion squared away and have their name all over it, and more importantly, the experience in doing it. and the future business it could bring.

I reckon you stop it, save your money and buy a megane 250. Failing that, buy a sweet exhaust and some sticky tyres for your clio, get yourself some track days booked in. :thumbup1:

Depends how desperate you are to get it done. I'd try a few other "reputible" specialists and go from there. If it aint meant to be it aint meant to be.

seriously mate i learned the hard way. even with all them mods i was never happy.

Dont be put off mate. Who have you tried? I would love to fit one of these in a 200 if I had the time!

Cannot believe nobody wants to seemingly do this mod!
Would make a great mag feature too.
Have you spoken to TDF?

lol i know why cus its money that could be spent on better things. even throttle bodies would get you similar more reliable power

If it is something you want doing then I wouldn't give up - you have all the pieces, if all they have to do is put it together properly I am sure there are a dozen companies who can do it to the standard needed for a decent price too. As said previously, a Ren Specialist would be a good option as they will have experience of both engines, looms, ECU's etc.

On the other hand just enjoy it for what it is and get a 250 in a year or two!

I'm not one for playing one off against another, but both are Renault specialists, just getting really annoyed, and stuck in two mines

Go further afield to renowned tuners not just known for selling parts for renaults. That's what I'd personally do matey

I'll think I'd buy them off you...I'm still looking for a donor car. I know what you mean, had to call some big favours from friends in the trade to even entertain taking it on. If I considered going to RS tuners, TDF or jamsports...the price wouldn't justify the conversion. There is over 300 hrs work. Thats about 9 grand + vat. Certainly not plug n' play. I think people forget why there isn't another one...bar the one on youtube. Theres no guarantees that the ecu will work either. My friends taking about maybe having to use a standalone ecu, which is another £800.

Must admit, I'm havin second thoughts....

It might be worth talking to TDF about this conversion using their ECU, bound to generate some more interest from them if there's an ECU in it

Look at it this way..... Resale value is so poor you have to pay people to take it away never mind get money out of it. Im giving away 7k of mods in a px deal if i told them about the mods they would probably value my car even less.
