The reason my 197 went was because I was always worried about when am I next gonna fill it up. Always worried about the petrol usage on her, so in the end, I realised that all the effort I put in about worrying about MPG simply wasn't worth it. Off went the 197, in came a 182.

No regrets. Love the 182 loads.

How did you get on in the end anyways?

Think the speed can make quite a big difference, being really careful and cruising at ~60 you can get over 40mpg (Its boring and requires lots of effort!!). Cruising at 80 will get you somewhere between 25 and 30mpg
