My Stealth Raider Progress - Updated 21/05/12 Plasti Dipped Front End

Hello to all  As a few of you will know, i picked my Raider up in the first week of March after trading in my Albi blue FF 200. So far i love it and now, a few hundred miles later has made me have brainwaves of ideas (like you do) so i guess i'll start a thread. Not a lot that i am going to do compared to some but a few mods i guess is better than none :thumbup1:

First was the pick up and the detail............

Finally went to get my Raider this morning. Sad to see my 200 go but the new one is worth every penny! Only had 6 hrs to do something with it so here goes.....

First up was the initial wash, car was quite dirty as it hadn't been washed analy first time round so i requested just to leave it till i came for it. Cant really see how dirty it is but a matt finish that hasnt been treated looks very shabby in areas

6804038086_34c1691511_z.jpg

Wheels however were the familiar signs of a new pad

6950151143_11e30c9651_z.jpg

Bilberry was diluted at 10:1. Had to make a temporary brush out of a wash schmitt as i had sold my Ez Brush, forgetting that Polished Bliss hadn't received their wheel woolies yet :@ Swissvax style brush was also used

6804048356_aebb3ab296_z.jpg

Still got the job done for now and got them clean enough. Arches were also done but they had been treated to something so using just shampoo and another homemade brush sorted it but with no pics.

6950161181_6f64035477_z.jpg

Next up was the body work, not many pictures here but used the shampoo that came with the car, a Swissvax mitt and cleaned the usual intricate areas and badges & sills/shuts with several brushes

6804060736_ea2f251174_z.jpg

The car was then moved into the valet bay and i just timed it right as it started to rain. Full car patted down using a few small microfibres

6950176615_68f9b90461_z.jpg

Washing and drying has taken up more than 2 hrs for some reason. Maybe i was being too careful so i had to crack on with the paint. Opaque cleaner fluid was applied to all matt areas

6804070310_5b81851678_z.jpg

Spraying on every panel and wiping off, turning the cloth frequently to buff off excess using the Swissvax cleaner fluid towel

6950182833_b1e73db04b_z.jpg

Full car was then completed and ready for the Opaque wax

6804000354_558caaa788_z.jpg

The 50ml pot that comes with the discovery kit does seem small just like the autobahn but a little goes a very long way. Put this on with the black applicator pad and took it off using the blue wax cloth that also came with the kit

6950100267_2b4598cf9a_z.jpg

Putting this on actual matt paint as apposed to vinyl wrap was visually different as it didn't significantly darken the area as it does with vinyl so there was a very slight darkening of color but was very hard to capture, even with the wax on

Left half of the bonnet

6950103393_050b67eab9_z.jpg

Lot of hard work indeed for a full car. Timing needed to be right for every panel as you can't let it cure. The car needs a full re buff after a few hrs as the wax needs to gas off. This could be clearly seen and looked a bit milky in areas but i couldn't really capture the finish and didn't have the time so i moved on to waxing the shuts and sills etc.

By now i had used up 6 hrs! and there was just a little too much to finish in the given time so the gloss areas and wheels were treated to a bit of diluted c2 1:1 as a temporary measure until i can give the areas a once over with the rotary and get some autobahn on the wheels. The show plates that were taken off the car had left remains of the double sided sticky pads so these were removed, taking extra precaution on the rear because it was stuck on the matt finish so i didn't use a tar/glue remover, just heat. New private plates were put on that i was chuffed to bits with as it makes it look that bit more special. Final wipe down of the car was then done after an hr and a half of being in a bit of sun. Few pics of the more or less completed work .........

6950125225_297d628a2b_z.jpg

Most importantly, keys were handed over by the salesman himself

6950131405_5224c5773f_z.jpg

The week after i got 6000k xenons fitted, led side lights and got the fogs changed while the bumper was off. Then i stuck my Ktec panel filter in from the other car. I done the 3 interior lights leaving the ones in the door and the rear number plate to do maybe next week.

The Chester meet was not so long after so i decided to de-badge the rear and take the dealer stickers out of the back window. I had to phone several people for reassurance on taking the rear badge off because of limited product use for matt paint and purely how the paint would look underneath. Anyhow, i removed the badge which took over an hr because i wanted to get every letter off without the glue separating and staying behind on the paint. Once all off, I was left with an outline of the lettering :@ A few attempts were made by using the pre cleaner with the swissvax kit i bought but didn't have the effect i was after so ended up mixing it with some with petrol (being able to evaporate) giving it the extra kick to remove the outline. A hairdryer didn't have enough heat build up so i used my heat gun. Pic of the finished work and a few from the Chester meet that someone kindly sent me

2 months on and still loving the Raider, i decided not to mess around with getting the silencers removed from the exhaust and getting decats made. What ever i buy for the car will be staying on it when i sell it one day, including the private reg (for obvious reasons) so the expense was worth what i received Wednesday morning.........

Took the plunge and got an Evo Akropovic System after watching several videos on you tube and a few people praising it to death (cheers Kenny )

Ive now took it all out of the huge box and put in my car ready for tomorrow morning when it is going to be fitted. I will posts pics up tomorrow with the progress and material list etc.

Hope this is as good to read so far as it is for me to try and make her a sensible monster!

Hey rob hope all is still well with the raider, I'm sure a few will be picking your brain on detailing.

There is a swissvax HQ meet on the 27th soon, thought it may interest you.

Ooooooh! Car looks awesome and is just about to sound a whole lot better also. The Akrapovic really is a nice bit of zorst work.

One thing that still doesnt have me sold is the 18" wheels on the Raiders. Just look too big and not the right style for the Clios?

Cheers Noddie, yeah both you and Ashton sold it for me :thumbup1: A few people have said the same about the wheels but i think they suit the car well. The faces stick out quite a bit when looking head on which i like.

Porn. Enough said

You will love the akrapovic lew. Carbon tailpipes will look awesome against the matte paint.

Good to speak to you today

Kenny

Needs bigger tyre walls to carry off 18"s IMO.

Cars looking awesome though man. Sweet exhaust system!

Lovely!! If it was lowered the 18's would look better. You'll love the exhaust, defo the best!

Stunning! full stop:smile:

Just a question, coming from a 200 (I don't know if you had the cup pack), did you notice any difference in handling/steering/turn in when comparing to the raider given that the wheels are bigger? Some say that there shouldn't be any difference because Renault otherwise wouldn't fit them but I am not entirely convinced. Actually I quite doubt the renault engineers had anything to do with it, I reckon the marketing guys just jumped in and performed their ''magic'' to boost the sales. Either or, I'm feeling very sorry for the wheels being wrapped up in 215/40s...

You see, I'm thinking of going for the 18" ultras but I haven't convinced myself yet...make my day please, tell me that there is no difference whatsoever:smile:))

Again, gorgeous car mate:smile:

Renault took a red and grey one to bedford yesterday.

The grey one looked stunning!

Cheers mate  The 200 i had before was a FF because i had test drove a cup and the ride didn't please me at all and that was obviously on 17's. When i had my heart set on buying the Raider, the only thing worrying me was how the ride would be with a cup chassis and on 18's. I eventually took it out and it was superb. Steering is slightly better than the FF due to the quicker steering rack but didn't feel as bumpy and rocky as a normal cup on 17's for some reason. I'd say the handling is better but that's my 2p's worth. Feels more solid and you can certainly feel the road more.

The Raider has had more suspension tweeks including the ESP/ASR for the set up of the 18's to work so i very much doubt that it was a marketing jobbie. Turning with the 18's is a little heavier sat still but doesn't stop what you want to do when maneuvering etc. I doubt you will be disappointed Yiannis. These have come with Bridgestone Potenza's and they are very positive in the wet too.

Hope this helps with your decision mate :thumbup1:

So i went to get the Akropovic fitted yesterday morning at 10am by Northwest Performance. The zorst is superb and is worth every penny. A few pics of the fitting.....

First up, the diffuser was taken off

7144474063_f0e728dbb7.jpg

The instruction book that came with the zorst was showing that the old was one was needed to be cut near the back box in order to get the rear end out which wasn't the case. There was no room to cut where it was without risking chopping up the heat shield above so the rear axel was dropped to get more space

7144474177_9c698889fa.jpg

Old exhaust was now out and ready for the assembly for the new

7144474303_a956f26a4c.jpg

The craftsmanship of the Akropovic is unbelievable.

7144474435_7f7dc5d37e.jpg

First the rear hangers were put onto the new back box and was put in place

6998388704_5e1480daf8.jpg

The back box clamp was then added and the 2 foot bend was sleeved on to it. Notched it up a little for easy movement till it was all in.

6998388838_f7365cd79b.jpg

Main piece was put in and got away with changing the clamp that used to connect the cat to the pre cat in the manifold.

6998387162_b5d922628e.jpg

Everything was aligned and tightened up, checked for any leakages or blowing and all was fine. Finished job is this area

7144472999_70cdb86e25.jpg

As i was moving onto changing the exhaust tips, i let Matt kindly clean the new zorst with some window cleaner to get rid of the fingerprints and grease mess that was lurking on it due to fitting.

6998388992_6fcaafb54d.jpg

Old tips removed

7144473643_c5c3bbb3ba.jpg

In with the new tips and diffuser was refitted

6998387842_ea73d99f90.jpg

Car was dropped down and all done. Guess these tips would cost a few quid on their own as they were also superb craftsmanship

6998387984_5013040724.jpg

Took her out for a few blasts and is very impressive indeed. No flat spot created either which was a massive bonus. That's all the plans i had at the moment but i could be tempted with a remap depending on the Ktec group buy if i ever happens. I be taking the wheels off possibly next week for a good clean and i might paint the hubs as they are already proving to be a nightmare with stainage!!! I'll no doubt keep this area updated with things that may pop up and knowing me it will be very soon.

Hope it was a good read  Lew
