My 200 will not start

When trying to start, it makes a clicking noise, the info screen says ‘steeeing not locked’

The AA managed to get the car started my linking out Negative on the Battery to the engine block metal work, so he suspects the engine earth may have failed..

Can someone explain where the earthing Point for a 200 would be located? It won’t start since I have got it home.

Thanks

The negative from the battery is located above the acoustic valve on the right hand side of the bay.

This one?

I’ve cleaned that up, is there another earth strap that connects to the engine/ gearbox?

Here's all the connections on the engine loom, check the two big earth cables which go the battery at either end first...

Looks like one end bolts to the gearbox (MH)

Wow, that’s for that!

I stripped it down earlier, and found both earthing points. Going to clean them up and try firing the car up again.

Have you bump started the car?
Im currently in exactly the same situation with my 197.
I have bought a new starter motor because it bump started and ran fine then, until i turned it off then wouldn't work again with same error 'steering not locked'

If you have any other GEN on it let me know please because if its not the starter motor i am stumped.

Liam, it was the battery! I put a new one in on Saturday, cleaned up the earths etc and its been fine since.

Did you volt check the battery before you got a new one?? Because I did this and it was reading 12.5v. :/
You can have 800v, but if it ain’t got the amps it won’t do fuck all mate. Voltage just pushes the amps in simple terms, so if it has no amps, you have no current flow.

I dont like wiggly amp things. Try to stay away from electrons haha. I did get a shock from the starter when I moved the heat shield so I know theres some form of power to the starter....
