LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

Success! A late 21k mile FN2 box from a 2011 car is on it's way - after about April 2010 the FN2 box got the Honda LSD so was worth the premium for.

Will work out cheaper than buying an early box and Mfactory LSD etc.

Engine and box sorted then ! Happy days !!

I hope all this works out as it will be interesting to see how comparable N/A power fares against a 270bhp Meg conversion.

Be a while before I would be chasing the bigger numbers the K20 can do, as to keep some costs down I don't think I'll go cams and valve springs etc. Instead I'll use some of that money for a Clockwise Motion sump baffle and the FD2 oil pump/balance shaft delete kit. Mind that's good for 5-10bhp across the revs and the oil pump is safe for 9000rpm. So along with an equiv to Kpro and a hopefully sound exh manifold - should map to around 220bhp I think. Should last more than a year though :lol2:

Really looking forward to this project mate, fingers crossed it all works out!

Got to admire your dedication or is it persistence. Being from the old school stable I like to see cars stick with the range of engines from the same OEM. But hey its a engineering challenge and thats what will keep me interested in this thread.
Now what would be good would be a MK3 V6 RWD!......hmmm!

Thanks for everyones well wishes by the way  Let's hope I'm not updating in a few weeks saying it's soo flipping wide the chassis legs just wont take it :bye2:. I think in reality it's the depth of the K20 that's usually the problem, there's a way around that though.....ITB's lol!

Krash, yeah I know what you mean but there is nothing in the Renault stable that works for me - I realise I'm an awkward ******* with my refusal to accept boost!

We have one sat on a pallet, here are the (approx) dimensions for you, only had a tape measure to hand!;

Height - 635mm as above
Length (front to back, from alternator to oil filter) - 540mm
Width (side to side, from crank pulley bolt to gearbox casing) - 920mm 860mm

Thanks, I don't suppose you have an F4R accessible to measure too?!

Box will be here on Weds and engine Thurs anyway, so hoping to be able to get moving fairly quickly anyway.

Amazing Rich! Well done, you don't waste your time!
Hope everything will work out and you can ride it on track days soon, because that is the real pain, when you have a statue in your garage and you can not take it to the tracks! I know this feeling thanks to AST 5100 and ET68 wheels being not in love with each other, so half of my last season was off :worried:

Awesome, can't wait to see the progress of this. A tuned K20 lump in a Clio = PORN!

They are very very capable engines, it used to amaze me how they got slated for being 'torqueless' but in honesty they are easily as quick as most turbo hot hatches of the same era, you just had to be on the ball to get the best from them.

This is a quick video of my old EP3. Both the first two runs were done in 3rd gear when I really should have been in second, but you can see how well it went once it got going. That's running in the region of 240bhp mapped to normal fuel. The mods were a 2.5inch exhaust, DC Sports 4-2-1 manifold, PRC inlet manifold (from the JDM Type R), ITG Maxogen and a KPRO ECU + mapping. On the road there wasn't much I came across that properly embarrassed it. Once they get going they just go and the ratios in the Honda box are spot on.

Yeah it's a big shame about the AST and ET68. But not a problem for me to deal with for a (long)while yet!!
I need to get cracking with it though, as I think it'll take a while before it's finished, mapped and ready for track. Although I'm going to have to buy a cheap car to use in the short term so once I've got that there won't be a big rush to get done I guess.

Yeah they make decent torque, perhaps not quite the peak as an F4R seems to like for like - however they make it much higher up and thus big power  Revs are the answer to everything IMO, because more revs means you can use shorter gears/final drive and that also increases torque at the wheels. Plus it just sounds incredible

I've got a rough idea what spec I'll go for - but currently researching the unknowns to me like clutch and flywheel etc. It seems the FN2 has a fairly light flywheel for a K20 already at 4.8kg (only 0.4kg heavier than my F4R TTV steel flywheel) so I may keep that stock - but then it's only £350 for the K20 TTV and it's 3.2kg lol!
Clutch though, seems a lot of people say that for NA use either Exedy OEM or Exedy Stage 1 - but to use a genuine Honda release bearing is also often said (despite the fact Exedy make the Honda OEM clutches!)? But there's just so many makes for jap stuff it's insane compared to Renault! ACT, Clutch Masters, Competition Clutches, Exedy, Japspeed - all seem to be suggested frequently.. but I've no fricking idea which yet!!!

Absolute sex mate.

There best be plenty of pictures.

MS Paint count?

this video is beautiful..sounds great and very smooth...

Actually i do mate  i'm back home tomorrow, i'll dig out the engine and have a measure for you!
