Knocking steering progress/Renparts

I've seen a few people with the same steering issues on the forum so i thought i'd try help everyone out and make a progress thread on how i sorted it without it costing the price of a pair oc recaros, so here it goes;

A couple of months ago after a flee about some really tight corners on a back road my steering started knock when Turing the steering wheel 45 degrees. Although it doesn't effect the driving if the car it's still annoying. So I had a look as the steering and after a bit of inspection I found it was a worn bushing on the steering column (upper joint) so I had a look online and the local car breakers. No luck as standard clios have a different steering set-up. So I found this eBay store that specialises in Renault used parts called 'Renparts ltd' and after a couple of emails they found the exact part I was after and now I'm just waiting on delivery, I'll update with a vid of the steering later!

Has the new bushing rectified your knocking noise? How did you know it was this part that's causing the issue?

New bushing came today so we'll see when it's fitted! You can feel it the UJ nocking when you hold the column and turn the wheel, I'm hoping that'll be it!

I couldn't be bothered sorting just the bushing so I bought both couplings on part of the column! Try and fit this weekend!

So went to fit the column and turns out its the wrong part... But on reassembling the old column it's made the knock a bit better (something was probably loose) steering column for sale for 197 :wink:
