Intermittent Start Issue - Fuel Pump?

Starting Problem

Basically, Friday night was on way home from work, stopped at tesco. When I came back to the car, it wouldnt start. Tried to turn over as normal, but just wouldn't start.

Waited for a while, locked - unlocked car etc. Still the same. :-/

AA came out to me, checked that there was a spark, then gave the fuel tank a few taps and it started.

One thing I did notice when I was trying to start it was a noticeable whirring noise. Is this the fuel pump? Or can you help me with what the likely problem is?

Any help would be appreciated. The car is having its 36k service on Friday. Its a 2007 197.

The whirring noise is the fuel pump - mine stopped making this noise when my fuel pump packed up so I dare say that should be fine
