Holidays 2018..............

Bloody hell mate, that's quite the list!!!

That's super cool you're doing your Mountain Leader too. Where are you doing it? Notice you're in Cheshire so guessing it could be Snowdonia or the Lake District? Never done a guided walk but it's something I'd be very keen to do one day. There's no substitute for experience huh?

We're actually headed to the Lakes for our next trip at the end of this month. Bank holiday weekend so it will no doubt be very busy but am in the process of doing a lot of research before we go to see if there are any areas less likely to be rammed with tourists. Can't wait. Will be my first proper visit as the last time I went it was only for driving.

And then we're looking forward to doing Yosemite and Sequoia again in the Autumn. There will be more in between but we're very much spur of the moment people so nothing is planned yet.

Yeah mainly Snowdonia, as I’ve moved about 200metres over the border, into wales, now haha
That’s it, always worth going out with someone with that extra experience, like a guided walk. Just pick up little extra tips, that make you able to concentrate on enjoying yourself, more than not dying [emoji23] haha.

Yeah it’ll be busy, but all about route choice up there. I’ve done some walks that have been absolutely dead on the busiest days of the year! Yet done some that I thought would be quiet, and turned out to be busier than Snowdon on a sunny day! Can only make a educated guess. Either way, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time, one of my favourite places in the world!

Yosemite is also a dream [emoji30] so jealous man!

I'm jealous too mate. Spending that much time in Snowdonia would be a HUGE life improvement for me. I'm so very keen to do the Glyders one day. Can't tell you how much I'd love to see Castell y Gwynt. Some way beyond my climbing skills at the moment sadly. One day...

Maybe we should follow you up when you've done your Mountain Leader!

We've actually parked the Lake District idea for now. We're going to do Snowdonia instead. Mainly because it will be the first proper road trip Mrs M has done in the Clio so we've gone for the better driving. Scenery will be MORE than good enough. Going to do a few gentle walks, nothing too strenuous. Llyn Padarn, Llyn Ogwen, Llyn Idwal plus a little way up Tryfan and maybe a few other bits. But it will be predominantly a driving holiday.

As for Yosemite, my god mate, it's worth any effort it takes to get there. Utterly stunning and SO well organised plus great facilities too. We spent three days there, wasn't enough, and two in Sequoia, which was every bit as impressive. Had both full on snow and glorious sunshine depending on the days so got to see both sides of it. Going back in the Autumn, simply can't wait!

Well I’ve just got back from the land of über commercialism that is Disney. What an amazing experience it is to watch your kids seeing and believe the magic (we’ll one of them, the other was terrified of all the characters haha). The flights - not so amazing. Forgetting the holiday for a moment, the amount of mustangs driving around Florida is crazy! Not the rubbish ones either, the proper v8s and Shelby versions.

LOVE America. Of course there's a hell of a lot to dislike it for but for the most part it's an amazing country with lots of warm and welcoming people.

Every time we're there we have a 5.0 V8 Mustang (although I think they've downsized the engines now sadly so the next one won't be quite the same) and I love the hell out of it. Some really amazing canyon routes out in LA too. Always make sure we get out in the hills for some spirited driving!

Glad you all had a great time mate. As for the flights, when is it ever fun? Last one, I ended up nose to nose with some idiot trying it on, and then he pushed me and immediately shouted "stewardess, this man is being violent" OMG what a little bitch. Then later I saw him in the line for customs. I was giving Mrs M a welcome to America hug and as I looked over her shoulder I could see him looking at me. He was with his other half, she was being WELL moody with him and he was trying to calm her down and she was pushing him away. Made sure he saw me laughing at him.

You mean they had double booked seat 1A?

You're like a real life Jack Reacher, just without the killing part.

Same thing when I was there in 2014, literally convoys of the really awesome stuff. I ended up parking my Hyundai well out of the way.
This year we'll no doubt end up in a bigger Hyundai...

Nope, just he was right in the way in the middle of the aisle being a dick and showing off to his munter mrs and wouldn't move. Instantly got in my face for no reason.

And I don't know who this Jack fella is but I'm just the guy who doesn't put up with people being a dick. Ever.

As for America, rent a Mustang from Enterprise (they're really not that much more, especially if you go for the V6) and stop dicking about in a Hyundai

:micah:

Seriously, what's £100 on top of a holiday to the States. SOOOOO worth it mate, you'll be glad you have if you do!

Well that’s all a bit unnecessary isn’t it, at least you seemed to come out of it the better man.

If we didn’t have 3 big cases a buggy and two kids to lug around I would have chose something much better (mustang/camaro or similar) but instead I had the pleasure of a wobbly VW Tiguan which only just fitted all of stuff in.

Ha, mate, you should see how much my Mrs packs for a holiday. Twice as much as she needs. It can't be far off what you have to deal with! Boot and rear seat space is maximised!

And of course, guess who does most of the lugging around and lifting up staircases... yep!

Share your pain mate, just maybe not quite so much!

Looks lovely Antti. Especially the Steak. I'm hungry !

This thread reminded me. Saw this Bentley GT last week in Ayia Napa. Came past me and then parked up in a prominent position on the swanky part of the sea-front - so everyone could see it i'm guessing. And the owner looked a right Carlos Fandango. Local shopping complex owner i'm kind guessing from what i saw.

Anyway; irrelevant of all that i thought it was hyper cool. Bentley itself looked to have some sort of bodykit on it - and the wrap had both the look AND the texture of Lizard (?) skin. Usually i'm pretty picky about drawing the line between taste and tat. But this was awesome in my eyes and really cool.

This however was just tat:

@Johnny 99 thinking about a Scandinavian holiday this year was it much to book / you been before?

If you're going out that way, I'd definitely suggest a stop off in Copenhagen. Bloody amazing city.

Prepare yourself for eye watering prices over there, Scandinavia is NOT cheap. They have mega high tax. Think double everything and you're about there!

So worth it mate, Scandinavia is glorious.

If the Mrs is with you I'd suggest eyes down for most of the time. The moment you step off the plane you'll realise the ladies are OUTSTANDING over there!!!

Not been to Norway, but I've been to Denmark a few times as I have a friend out there I met when I was there in 1972! as @///M said Copenhagen is fantastic. I've travelled the length of Denmark by car as we drove to Copenhagen & toured up to the far north of the country to where my friend lives. Also done a couple of day trips to Sweden from Copenhagen. One by hydrofoil before the bridge was built & then over the bridge on an open topped London style double decker bus. The bridge is amazing if you like big engineering projects & the open bus was a great way to see it on the gloriously sunny day we had.
Longer term I plan to tour Norway by car as I want to drive the Atalantic Road (more amazing engineering & another great bridge!) and also the "Troll's Ladder" which is a great road of hairpin bends and height gain in a short distance with amazing views.
I didn't find Denmark TOO expensive, but looking at the day trips I'm planning in Bergen Norway will be pricey! My friend's town in the north oif Denmark is full of drunk Norwegians every weekend who come over on the ferry for cheap Danish beer.
As said by Mes the women are GORGEOUS!!! Apparently there's a shortage of men in Sweden so go east young man!
