200: Falsely told my vehicle had full service history

Hi everyone,

Got a Gordini a while back now and I've spoken to Renault recently and have been told that the car has NO service history and should have been done at 12k miles. However, the vehicle has fresh oil but had a dirty OEM panel filter in it.

What's everyone's advice?

What can I do about this legally speaking?

Do I take the car for another service? How do I know cheap shyte hasn't been put in the car?

Should have been your responsibility to check the service manual when purchasing. If the stamps are there from Renault or another specialist the work should be okay but if it's a back street garage any old crap could be in there.

According to renault retail, air filters no longer changed annually, more so when they need to.

There are a couple of scenarios here.

1st off you should have a stamp in the service book. Did you check this? If the book wasn't supplied during the service then it obviously will be missing, although there should be a receipt IF the previous owner kept it.

It may have been serviced at a non Renault garage/dealership/specialist so Renault will have no record anyway. Again the above point applies. That doesn't necessarily mean "cheap shyte" was used. It's unlikely that a garage would use anything other than recommended viscosity on a new car.

For piece of mind have it serviced/work completed at the mileage stated in the book.

What constitutes to a Full Service History? I would expect to see a stamp and/or evidence in the form of a dated/mileage receipt. A Full Renault Service History however means that Renault should have a record.

There is no service book. I've chased it up a million times but they're always failed promises. I've been down there five individual times but I couldn't honestly give a crap about it anymore. I'm going to run the car in to the ground anyway, it's a dream car of mine and I'll have it serviced every year if I have to; I'm just trying to decide if it's worth doing now rather than later.

What needs changing at 12k? The oil is a close honey colour; you can clearly see it's been changed recently, perhaps at 12k as recommended? I've changed the air filter but what else needs to be done? Do you think a garage would miss the oil filter?

Plugs?

I know the Brembos need to be done, very squeeky.

Understood. I'll certainly remember this. Wouldn't it come under false advertising though?

I don't mean to sound patronising but you should have done your hwk prior to buying the car and signing on the dotted line. For all you know it could have a full service history but you don't have the book.
It's doubtful that Renault will sell a car without a Renault Service history for warranty reasons. My guess is that it's been part chopped prior to needing a service, Renault have serviced it (12k) and bunged it on the forecourt and misplaced the book... So you are saying.

How do you mean part chopped? I believe the car was there at 11,800 miles and left there at 12,100 miles which probably meant the dealers had fun with it. You're correct that it could have been serviced there. I understand I should have done my home work, but I literally let my inner teenager take over so I didn't really think about it to be honest. They said they'd get it sent to me but It's obviously just crap that they feed you. I've been down the Garage and they've got no service history on the internal system but another lady said it may have been serviced else where such as Gravelles Renault or whatnot.

It was on the board

"Full Service History". However, there was nothing on the Internal System. I've seen it with my own eyes.

Do you have copies of the advert which state that it has a f/s/h? Or at correspondence from them ie e-mail that show that they've lied?

If a garage said to me that the car had f/s/h I'd believe them too if I'm honest. If it was from a private seller I wouldn't without proof.

They left the boards that the car had the price on in the back of the car, I gave them back to them when I went down for the book the first time. I've really no evidence on my side to be honest...

Maybe they've forgot to put it in the system? The woman did mention it was done somewhere else which is why it wouldn't come up on the system, but then the man next to her said that there was no service history on the car after the 5th time I've been down.

No idea?

The service 'book' is at the back of the user manual from memory.

Also what age is the car and what milage? The 200 service intervals are 12k miles or 2 years,I. My car as advertised as having a full service history too but as it was 1 year old and had 5k miles on it when I bought it meant it hadn't been serviced.

Gordini 200 -
2011 Plate LS61ZXB
The service light isn't on and I've 7k miles till next service.

I've not got a service book with the car nor a manual.

Hi just letting everyone know I've booked my car in to a guy in Ammanford who works with the GB Rally team so clearly has an idea with these types of cars.

Plans:
New oil,
New oil filter,
Brembo service.

Would give me a massive piece of mind when I'm ragging it's tits off then that it's not doing any quick damage to the car.

I think this is the last time I go to Renault, their cars are excellent out of the factory but their servicing is dog rough. I've even had to fix the boot plastics where the latch is as it's hanging off. Ridiculous! Obviously not all places are like this, but It's a shame I feel like I've got to go else where rather than the company the car was manufactured with! Thanks for you're help everyone.

I bought my ex demo megane with the promise from RUK it had never been on track. 6 months later I found pictures of it in PFC lapping the ring. Kicked up an absolute stink about it and wanted either money back or an extra years warranty for 'false advertising'. RUK didn't budge an inch and were happy to take it to court.

The service stamps go in the back of the owners manual. Have u checked there?
