Figured I May aswell start a thread as the car isn’t leaving my grubby mitts for a good while yet!

So to start with I have purchased a remote kit for the stereo with a pioneer adaptor, the original aerial is pants so that’s gonna be leaving once the new dab/fm/am effort comes, I’ll update on that as I was gonna buy a jvc but found a Hama variant who make aerials for allsorts of setups so I figured I’d take the plunge, roughly half the cost of a jvc Hal-2 as well! Jury will be out on that one

So to go with the pioneer remote interface it would be rude to not get a shiny pioneer dab stereo to go with it

Ordered it yesterday, turned up this morning! Not bad service from caraudiodirect, oxford outfit and always there or thereabouts on price and even if it’s a few quid more I’d rather deal with somewhere I kinda know of and have used in the past

I’ll be fitting it in a week or so’s time as I’m off for ten days now, fishing a festival near Scunthorpe for 5 days and then two league matches at the same place the weekend after, I’ll be fished out by the time I get back and hopefully browner cos it’s been sunny all week!

Look forward to seeing this one progress. We don’t get many guys big into audio on here.

Good luck

I figure I can add amps and cables and just make the sub box removable for the track, amps will weigh very little, sub box will be 30kg at least I reckon depending what sub I get

Good luck... hope the Clio speaker wiring is better than my old twingo.. that was horrendous when I fitted my aftermarket speakers and amp in.

I do miss a good audio set up as the speakers and such in the cup are crap!

Great choice of head unit. I've got the same one, it's spot on. I may rattle your brains over the next month or so, planning on installing an under seat sub like this one, covert but decent power. No idea what I'm doing though haha.

Whereabouts in the country are you?

Notts/Mansfield/Derby

I’ve got it’s older big brother in my campervan with a hal-2 on the roof, reception is cock on! Way better than stick on stuff, took a chance on the cheaper aerial and will review compared, standard aerial I suspect has a knackered base! Signal is hit and miss even on R1 and 2 which is normally the one you can get bar none, if I hit auto search on the alpine in the car now it finds nothing or occasionally radio 1 and 2, it has a turn on capsule fitted which seems to make a difference, I suspect the original stereo is like a vag unit and powers the aerial base via the centre pin on the stereo, wo t be doing soon when the dab unit goes on!

So... the replacement aerial fitted perfectly, the square hole in the roof was a perfect fit, the old one has a flying lead off it which plugs in behind the drivers side quarter trim... 22mm socket removed the old aerial, I think it was 21mm but 22 worked!

New aerial i will find what it was, I know it was 35 quid or thereabouts and fitted a treat, the dab and fm/am leads were a good length, had maybe two feet spare

I dropped the passenger side trim out properly and then the roof lining cane down and I was above to get a socket in to undo the old aerial and popped it out once I worked where the plug was (see above) and then threaded the new leads in, I put the o ring as a seal on the bottom of the aerial base before this I should add, it kind of fits around the square lug on the base of the aerial

Once in the hole you need an assistant to press the base down, I had the lead through the middle of the nut instead of folding it over through the side of the earthing spike which is attached to the nut (I’ll take some pics so you know what I’m on about, but I fitted it while I was at work and had v. Little time

Ran cables (you need some 3-5a cable to extend the aerial power feed as although you get 5m of 2x aerial leads the turn on power is 3ft long) they got taped together and ran along the roof lining and down the a pillar to the side of the glove box, which I also removed to enable me to lose the cabling and remote interface boxes etc

It also makes it way easier to thread everything in and not trap cables behind the stereo

Interface works a treat for the steering wheel, volume, source etc all work fine

So it was a bit shakey in the workshop and kept dropping signal but as soon as I pulled it outside it was clear it was the metal clad workshop killing the signal

Fm works a treat, I suspect my old aerial base was in need of replacement so it made sense to swap to dab when I had the chance

Radio doesn’t seem quite as easy to navigate as my 8300 in my campervan, but it was thirty quid cheaper could just need to use it and play for a bit yet

Dab performance seems awesome and v.crisp, switching between r2 dab and r2 fm I can tell which is which

Fm seems decent also, can’t say I’ve had decent performance to compare it too mind previously...

Compared to the campervan it seems comparable

Question I’ve tried to be clever and ordered a boot liner as it was cheaper than a floor carpet... does the Clio have a section of something at the back of the boot for sone reason? The liner seems about four inches short?

What boot liner? Not sure if it's helpful but I just fitted a boot liner from hatchbags and it fitted fine, I just specified clio 2005-2012 for my 200, so it was standard measurements.

It was a Renault part from eBay listed from 05-12, I ordered it as it stated taylored, I assumed it was a flat carpet from front to the back of the seats, wondering if it’s for a 197 or something? it’s not the floor carpet as that was missing so I figured for 40 quid this would do the job but it’s not deep enough, my Renault floor mats are perfect mind

I have found out why... I don’t have the square section at the rear of the boot under the rear seats like in this picture if anyone has one after stripping a car I would love to purchase it and an original boot carpet also?

So having run around for a week or so I can confirm I’ve not lost a signal on the dab at all, which is pretty good considering I live/work sort of in the sticks, impressed so far and it fits a treat, if you didn’t know it was a different aerial you wouldn’t know unless you had another parked next to it!

Black circles have 10% off per tyre on yokos, both fitted or delivered, I’m very tempted to go for some road legal seni slicks and then get some Laguna rims for winter and uniroyal rainsport 3’s

On a crap note, I have discovered the wheels on my car have a thick coat of powder coat on them in black... using a kerb... on a brighter note, I smoothed the powder coat back and used some smoothright black and it was a pretty damn good match bar the not so smooth bit underneath, way less obvious than silver/white marks around a black rim

408 quid for four Yoko AD08R tyres fitted on Thursday
