Does fitting a Quaife diff make a difference?

Hi all, I was the driver for this test

We carefully choose when to do this, so the weather and temperature was identical to make it as fair as possible and all my lap times was consistent within 0.2 of a second on every hot lap.

I can honestly say that I didnt think the Quaife diff would make much difference with the Clio but I was pleasantly suprised with how much better the Clio felt on track and the lap times prove this. It wasnt just corner exit that was improved, the turn in entry felt crisper too.

If anybody is using their Clio on track, I would personally recommend fitting the Quaife

Lap time was 1.21

That Megane with the 197 diffuser is mint! Lol! Clio looks great too, obviously!

Is the car otherwise standard? 4-5s over a short lap is a lot, unless it's running a stiffer setup than standard so really struggled to get the power down?

The Clio didnt previously struggle to put the power down but it did spin the inside wheel on all but one corner with the standard diff. Im over the moon with the difference it has made  . If you look on www.fastestlaps.com you will see how the Clio compares to other performance cars tested by the motoring media and it shows how the Clio can punch above its weight!!!

The test car was a full fat non CUP Clio 200 fitted with KW Clubsport suspension, R888 tyres, KTEC exhaust and remap. Only the diff was changed between the 2 days.

I spent a lot of time behind the wheel of R26.r and I can hand on heart say that the Clio fitted with the Quaife, KW Clubsports and the R888 make for a better handling car!!! The turn in is very impressive

Be good to get an idea of the work involved to it and of course the costs, sounds like a great addition for the track users of the Clio

Does a Quaife change the every day drive ability? will it make gears clunky or anything?

Under normal road driving conditions the car will drive exactly as per the standard diff, every day driving is not effected by having the Quaife fitted, no clunky changes and no extra noise.

quaiffe diff makes a whurring noise when its in at low speeds other than that no real difference.

no not really it only does that when u forget to turn the TC off and ure hooning it.

Ah, I forget the T/C is a bit over zealous in these, probably for the best in some circumstances though - my mate's car will change lane with even a tickle if you're not paying attention.

Got to admit i'm still sceptical - i havent had nine on track yet but the clio only has 200bhp so surely at higher speeds its not going to have the power to spin the inside wheel??

I can understand the turn in being improved, but not the power side of things..:001_unsure:

I'd be seriously interested in fitting one of this on the Clio, but would want a better idea of costs fitted as I see the LSD itself is around £700.

On a Ford IB5 box the fitting costs are around £150, plus the labour to remove and refit the 'box, which I think on the Clio is quite a lot.

The work involved means dropping the subframe to remove the box from the car and then stripping it down to its working components on the bench to gain access to the diff. Then the diff itself requires sensitive setting up with mesh and backlash etc.

The cheapest quote i found was £550, thats with a renaultsport specialist garage stripping the box off and sending it away to a gearbox specialist third party for the main work. The highest quote i received was off a motorsport/renaultsport specialist for £800, all the work done in house.

I'd be interested to see how you get on with fitting, etc. Especially as K-Tec are a bazillion miles away from me!

There are specialists i recommend all up the country mate.

Try BTM Performance, they are expensive but the workmanship is second to none.
