Haven’t been on much recently, been so busy!
First off had a dead starter motor, replaced that and it’s been sweet....until at Snetterton. Died again prior to our last session of the day, have potentially diagnosed it being an elusive missing heat shield, following a warm afternoon of giving the car some stick on track I’m thinking it’s just overheated being so close to the exhaust manifold..
Anywayyyyyy onto the better news. The car is very different to the one that went to Spa. Being spying on
@tombate911's cage for a while, when he said he was potentially moving on from the 200 I immediately said I wanted the cage...it came off, as did a certain set of Gaz Gold coilovers...
Took the trip up North last Sunday, meeting
@Pav along the way, who promptly made my car look awful by waxing his. The shine!!
Had a nice chat to both Tom and Pav and after squeezing the cage in through the boot, I was on the way home.
Last minute chat on Sunday evening to a local guy (Ant) called ACS Motorsport and he was on his way over on Monday morning to fit the coilovers. On a Bank Holiday too...quality service.
Fitted, tracked and a shim on the back axle just to even out the toe slightly to within fractions of a degree. Corner weighting still to be done as the cage wasn’t in prior.
Cut to Tuesday evening, the night prior to me heading off east for Snetterton, me and the fitter from work were fighting with the cage and eventually by 23:50, it was bolted in solid and ready to go!
Wednesday...enjoyed my lie in over the usual 5am start, but got up and cracked on getting the car ready to go. Headed to a wheel refurbisher to get the Rainsports fitted to
@Johnny 99's Speedlines, £24 fitted rather than £80 from the garage next door to work!!
Picked up these wheel bags on eBay second hand for less than £15 too! Perfect for storing the spare wheels in.
So by lunchtime everything was in and ready to go, unfortunately with the late night wrestling with Safety Devices’s top notch product I never had a chance to clean it...oops.
Off I went to meet up with
@jamesgw200,
@rupe30 and
@Micah for a lovely dinner date in Newmarket. Dived into
@renaultpartsdirect as always for a bottle of oil for myself and some gearbox oil for
@R27WTF. Great service as per!
We all headed over to Snetterton early Thursday morning in the pouring rain, I was thinking Spa all over again with the weather, however at least I came prepared with Rainsports this time....!
After the safety briefing we headed out for the sighting laps - first of all, what a track. Secondly, it started to dry up quite quickly, by 10am the sun was out and we were all out enjoying it on dry tyres.
Stiffened the coilovers up after lunch as the weather was dry for the foreseeable, wow what a car. Stayed absolutely planted all day and James even got out after having a go saying how it made him miss his Clio - killed two birds with one stone, was keen to get out in
@Big Ben's Meglio and wanted to see and hear mine on track!
Wow and wow. Ben, please don’t sell her.
Got to say, overall my favourite track so far. A second outing at Spa with a dry day (fingers crossed) may change that opinion, but Snetterton will be hard to beat. Want to get there again soon.
