The Definitive What Wheels Thread...

Bang for buck Ultrallegerras are probs your best bet. 250 per wheel at around 8kg.
Cause I've seen a few people with them I wanted a bit different and got ATS GTR, same weight but about 335 per wheel new (I got mine second hand For 250 each).
Alleggerita are around 7.2kg the lightest I've seen.

I'e not looked at other wheels myself but someone else can chime in that knows.

17x7.5

UGH, sex.

I was after a set of these in Matt Black but was given a minimum lead time of 3-4 months by O.Z themselves as no one had stock! :confounded:

Ended up netting myself a set of ATS GTR's instead.

Dont waste time on 5x108.

Change to Megane rs front hub and re-drill 5x114.3 for the rear rotor and you can run 5x114.3 all around. Tons of rim choices and easy for resale also.

I had no idea they came in 7.5J! all my weights are based off the wheels being 8J.

Now that makes sense why you've got them in 7.5J, what ET are they that you have fitted?

Is it a big job to do a conversion like that?

I tried 8J and it destroys the natural handling of the car. 7.5J feels better imo. 8J aint gonna provide much benefit except for heavier wheels. I also kinda prefer 215/45/17 that completely flush with 17x7.5 +48. It will rub on 225 with that offset when on spirited driving.

Real simple job. Replace front wheel hub to Megane RS.

Get a new set of rear rotor and get a machine shop to drill another set of lug hole to 5x114.3.

Tons of rim choices for 5x114.3

I'm currently running 8J with 215/45/17, the wheels I'm running (ATS GTR) are lighter than the standard 7.5 speedlines.
My wheels are 8.1kg, standard speedlines were between 9.5-10kg off the top of my head.
These wheels have definitely made my turn in a bit sharper, but the car is just a daily atm, so not sure if tracking it would show me a bigger difference.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, which Megane RS are your hubs from? and does changing the hub also include changing the brake discs and/or more, or can I use the ones I have (I just bought new discs haha).

Ah so you've just used the standard rear rotors and machined M14 5x114.3 offset from the holes already in them?
I actually work in a machine shop so this is something I could do myself!

Sorry for the ton of questions, I didn't even realize this kind of option was available to me.

You only need to replace the bearing hub from a mk 3 Megane RS that is 5x114.3. An example from Rofag (https://m.ebay.com/itm/New-GENUINE-...275-front-hub-wheel-/201951534234?_mwBanner=1). You will need to machine your front rotor pcd as well. I am using a custom AP rotor so i saved on the machining.

As for machining. You can safely machine another set of pcd from in between your original lug holes. But make sure the diameter of the lug hole to be similar to your lug nut. I am not an expert on this though. I sent mine to a machine shop.

I just did a whole bunch of googling before replying to this! :tearsofjoy:

I don't think machining my front rotor/discs will work as they have 2 countersunk screws to keep them on, which would be in the way if I were to machine an offset set of holes on a PCD.
In the long run, it would seem best to run two piece discs up front, as I could have the bells to suit the PCD of the Megane hub, and then have the rotors the correct size to fit the standard Brembos on the Clio without spacers (Clio being 312mm discs, and Megane being 330mm standard).

Have you stuck with 312mm discs, or have you gone up?

Thanks for your help!

I went to 330mm.

At one point i was running machined stock rotor. Not sure what you meant by countersunk but my machine shop did a fine job for me. So it is possible.

Good to know!

Ah just cause when I look at one: https://www.kamracing.co.uk/catalog/product/gallery/id/13177/image/24581/
The countersunk holes for locking them onto the hub look to be offset, so I assumed they would need machined again as well, along with the 5x114.3 which would leave little room to do so, but I couldn't actually say without one in my hand and measurements tbh. If you say you've run it before, then it must work somehow!

Has anyone ever got their hands on Superleggeras? I know they were discounted in 2006 and replaced with the Ultra’s, just curious.

Question

18x8.5 wheels will they fit on without having to role arches and what offset will be required ??

I want a set of 18 for my wets for track work only

any advise welcome.

my 8x18 interlagos wheels are ET66. if you can find 8.5x18 with ET52, your wheel will extend a further 20mm. i've seen people use 20mm spacers on stock wheels, so i'd think running those 8.5x18 ET52 should be fine.
