Upgrades

Hi guys,

To date I've done a few performance up grades to my car, I've had milltek cat back system with decat, got a centre pipe on the way, k&n cone filter, 64mm throttle body on the way and going to have a toyosports manifold when they get the back into stock.

What I'm after is some more info on other upgrades I could do for a bit more more power before I get it remapped?

Any info would be great!

as with all these topics the general opinion is they arent great engines for tuning in the clio, one of the things to do would be cams if you really want more power but its all pretty expensive. id just save my money a little and buy a megane 250 if you want power:smile:

I would love to do that, only problem with that is that it would take such a long time to save for that engine, I'm just not sure what else there is I can do, getting matched inlets in a few months but other than that I don't know what else to do now?

Cams are not a great idea. I fitted schricks and £1500 later really wasnt worth it. Another 15bhp but the power is pushed further up the rev range which is not where you need it on a Clio. Matched inlets, Ktec open filter kit and 63mm enlarged TB...

Really?! Are the engines that cheap? I thought I would be looking at around 3-4 thousand for an engine?

There was an r26 conversion on eBay recently for £1300, don't think it sold, that's gearbox with LSD, complete engine, ECU so yeah engines seem to be very cheap

So you wouldn't recommend that I get cams put on it then? Just stick to what I have?

Really wouldn't and there have been some horror stories (mine included) of people not being able to time them up properly. Needs more expertise than just relying on the tool...I'd say exhaust, Ktec filter and remap. Leave the rest cause for the bother, the gains are minimal if any on the NA engine.

That's about the going rate tbf. These engines aren't as expensive as some people think

I'd say you need to add another £1500 on top of that for fitting and stuff, unless you can throw a spanner at it yourself

The major cost is in transplanting the engine, you can use ancillaries from your Clio engine to keep costs down. The real tricky bit is the wiring loom and the mapping/coding but there's plenty of companies that can do that depending upon where you live.

Instead of the quest for bhp, why not consider some handling upgrades

Suspension
Lighter wheels
Bigger brakes
Diff
Track tuition

Power is nothing without control

I'd rather have the diff over 20who anyway. It's like dropping an anchor out your window onto the apex

I ran 190bhp at FCS with my k&n on, don't think it's as bad as everyone makes out! I have a Maxogen on now but not RR'd it after fitment

thats with bonnet open and outside, you run with the bonnet shut it will be pulling in all that hot air, someone a while ago brought a clio 197 with one fitted and wanted to revert to standard, couldnt beleive how quicker the car was with the standard airbox, the only proven airboxes are the clio v6, the itg maxogen and according to ktec there induction kit.
